When I replaced the wire in mine I searched  "Music Wire" (aka piano wire)
I was going to link you to the place i got mine from, but their web page no longer is there. I got a 10 foot length of the wire. and it wasn't a lot of money at all.  With that much I was able to measured my broken one, cut and learn how to install it and bend it to the right length.

You may want to find a crappy Empi or bugpack knockoff at a swap and gut it for parts
