His wheels have 6" backspace. The difference between long and short axles is 30mm (about 1 1/4"), which happens to be the additional backspace his wheels have compared to the alloys. Therefore it stands to reason that he will need long axles (not sure about the brakes though). All theory though, bolt up a wheel and find out.

One side of a Type 3 is about 5/8" shorter than a Beetle. So thats about how much that you can cut and move and weld the bearing holder back into the control arm. Aftermarket axles have a lot of extra spline. This allows you to shorten them more for narrower applications.

Pushing the hubs in is really very simple for a competent welder , just treble check everything before you commit and make sure you add some extra supportive strength to the exposed bearing carrier once your done :) I now only use the centerlines with my slicks and run a 9mm spacer with my 6.5 flat4 BRM's on the road Title: Re: Will these wheels fit?
