a thread just started on the samba, anybody with any info on this? Title: Re: Interesting turbo set up Post by: richie on June 09, 2013, 10:10:09 am looks like a pro charger to me, crank driven super charger, takes a lot to drive it though
cheers richie Title: Re: Interesting turbo set up Post by: dannyboy on June 09, 2013, 10:39:44 am isnt this why superchagers arnt common for vw motors? it takes to much power to run them up? or am i talking crap again :D
Title: Re: Interesting turbo set up Post by: Lids on June 09, 2013, 10:51:56 am looks the bollox though.
Perhaps they should now fit supercharger and turbo, best of both worlds. Title: Re: Interesting turbo set up Post by: Griebel on June 09, 2013, 11:17:44 am Hails from Revmasters "Scorpion II" ;)

Surely a crank driven turbo induction system wouldn't use as much energy as a supercharger? The working of a supercharger are far heavier in weight than a turbo fan. Looking at the picture of there system it only uses an intake fan so that should reduce the energy required and make boost instantly. Not sure about how fast it will spin compared to a normal turbo. Maybe its a geared set up? Title: Re: Interesting turbo set up Post by: DWL_Puavo on June 09, 2013, 21:45:49 pm Procharger uses normal gearing, rotrex uses planetary gears to multiply rpm's. Thus the boost rises with rpm's which can be problematic as normal turbo's usually reach their max boost somewhere in the middle of the rpm's. Surely stupid idea: how about to use reversed variator from scooter to drive procharger?

We talked to the the guy yesterday at AJ Sims. It's a Procharger that's run off the nose of the crank through a gearbox.

Title: Re: Interesting turbo set up Post by: spanners on June 11, 2013, 20:30:42 pm As above, there's nothing new exciting me, the earliest ever engines had turbos designed in from day one, they failed material wise, compounded turbos, muted next year in F1, were done in the 40's. Turbo+ superchargers are old hat, the VW Polo is on that just now, about all we have is better control from electronics, and better and newer materials.
