The Cal-look Lounge

Hey Guys, just wondering if anyone cane help me out with choosing the right offset on a set of Erco styled wheels?
I am building a street Cal Look here in australia. The car is a 63 bug running short 1200 axels and drum brakes and lowered one outer spline.
I am thinking 15"X4" with zero offset on the front and 15"X6" with 4" inner and 2" outer on the rear. (will these fit under the guards?)
If anyone is running Erco styled wheels on a street beetle can you please let me know what size is best.
Any help would be appreciated.

the rears sounds ok i have 6inch rears with 4.5 inch backspace and have 10mm spacers to clear the springplates
if you have a wide 5 disc kit on the front you may need spacers on the front as well as the calipers can foul  :)

You can't believe all the different sizes of offsets he has on the shelves there -- -- when I was doing the rims on my Fiat, he let me have 5 different wheel halves and I took them home and tried them out so I could get the perfect size rim for front and back   and with this mixing and matching I was able to get a 205 under the rear fender well...

I think they start with a zero, then to 2.5" and increase from there in 1" intervals all the way up to a 10" half... He will even put any bolt pattern you want in them from my 4x96mm fiat pattern all the up  from there -- and he will make them in several thicknesses so you go from ultra strong to very light weight...

What I would do is get some flat stock and put it across your drum/disc then you can measure the distance to spring plate -- figure out how much wider your tire is than your rim -- add a little for clearance (3/8 to 1/2" is good) -- then subtract that from your first measurement and that would be your back spacing with no spacers

Oh -- I took a grinder to the caliper on the front for clearancing, it was only about a 1/16" and I hate spacers and 1/16 isn't gonna hurt any caliper

I can also vouch for CMS and Walt Jenkins...great to work with!!  I live in Canada and Walt built me the exact 6" width wheels that I wanted and shipped them from California to Canada (I needed late 4-bolt pattern which was no problem for Walt to drill).  I went with the 0.190" street version, for extra durability...you can also get a thinner "race" wheel:  http://custommetalspinning.com/htm/offroad.htm

I have a '68 Beetle, but run the '66-down vintage SAW short axles, so I went with 3.5" backspace and 2.5" outer to reach my 6" width requirement and still fit under the fenders/wings.

short axles ( pre 66axle) use 6"x 3 1/2 inner for the rear
Frt wheels in zero offset come in 3 1/2 width. Can only use with drum brakes or a spacer to clear the disc brake
 Caliper.  I have them in stock.

Just another question, is the back spacing on a standard 15x5 steel VW rim 4"?

I always thought vw only made 4" rims hence the 15x4j stamp.
