Title: U.S Spec "Towel rail" bumpers - The extra surport bars - HOLES???? Post by: Lee.C on July 07, 2013, 20:56:12 pm well I have I have one set of bumpers from Mr Richie and I am waiting on a pair from Mr Ratto - My plan is to make the nicest pair out of the two and then fit them properly to my 65..... Now this is where I have a slight problem :-\ ::)
Being a "Norwegian" car ie EUROPEAN spec I do not have the 4 extra holes for the surport bars for the US spec towel rail bumper So......... I am hoping someone can provide me with the position/location/dimmensions/placing of these 4 holes PLEASE ;D Title: Re: U.S Spec "Towel rail" bumpers - The extra surport bars - HOLES???? Post by: Rocket-Racing on July 07, 2013, 23:05:30 pm Rumor has it that he locations of the holes are to be found in old VW workshop manuals. Not your ordinary Haynes manual but the real VW-ones that the dealerships used back in the day. When replacing body parts they didn't necessarily get the front valance or rear fender with the holes in them and had to make them themselves.
I think I can get to my oval and measure sometime later this week. But it will of course have the bumpers and support bars mounted, it would be better to measure on a valance/fender that has the hole visible to get it right. As I said, it's critical to have these holes 100% right, not much room for playing around. For now this is the best I can do (and I know it isn't much :D ) Title: Re: U.S Spec "Towel rail" bumpers - The extra surport bars - HOLES???? Post by: Black Sheep on July 08, 2013, 22:10:19 pm Do yourself a favor Lee and drill the centering hole first usually a 6.5mm then run a string line though to double check its centered right .
Coz you'll kick yourself if you cant get the rubbers to fit if their off a degree or two ;) Title: Re: U.S Spec "Towel rail" bumpers - The extra surport bars - HOLES????
