Title: ida 48 filter Post by: banditina on July 20, 2007, 16:56:33 pm hi,

(http://i21.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/9e/8b/eb13_1.JPG) (http://i4.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/9e/8b/ebb3_1.JPG) they are useful to put? which is it the company that constructs them? K&N? alternatives? tnx........ Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: empicolector on July 20, 2007, 17:13:35 pm I already have seen them on ebay may you have to look for it again
I know that its stupid but did you have try the email adress on the card ;) Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Harry/FDK on July 20, 2007, 17:31:52 pm Serrano's carries these things too, but they are very restrictive. Try aircooled.net , they have some nice clamp-on foam filters for IDA's. Or you can check out ACE (Art Thraen) this guy makes a beautifull stack/filter combination. Hope this helpes.

You drive everywhere with open stacks? Brave man for sure. The silica in one half of a teaspoon of Northern California dust will make your top rings run away from home. Would be nice to see a well constructed air box with an adequate filter to let the engine go to redline without choking. I have a set of them and planning to use it on 44idf. I have a set of them and planning to use it on 44idf. (http://www.racetep.com/weber/series400.jpg) I have a set of those for 48s that were given to me... I don't think I'd ever use them though. Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Matt Tobias on July 23, 2007, 06:56:01 am And what about Ram Flo filters? I have a set of them and planning to use it on 44idf. (http://www.racetep.com/weber/series400.jpg) I had a set of those on my 2276 and I actually sucked the foam out of the 3/4 side into the intake. What a mess! I thought my engine blew when it happened! Needless to say, I'm not running them now. They are cool to look at though. Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: j-f on July 23, 2007, 07:45:08 am Wow. I thought that these filters were better quality than the others... :o :o
There is a latticework inside however. Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Matt Tobias on July 24, 2007, 00:53:52 am Wow. I thought that these filters were better quality than the others... :o :o There is a latticework inside however. Yeah, the metal screen that holds the foam in place just didn't hold it in place. I was freaked out when it happened! Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Harry/FDK on July 28, 2007, 12:38:19 pm Hi Jim, thanks for the Unifilter info !
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Diederick/DVK on January 13, 2008, 01:56:52 am Did anyone refer to these already?
(http://www.racetep.com/weber/stack_screens.jpg) How about them? Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Rune on January 13, 2008, 03:55:56 am I tried those on my last motor, for like an hour... They won't let the motor breathe, AT ALL.... In a type 1 there is just no room for good (large) enough filters.... IMO
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Matt H on January 13, 2008, 04:21:39 am I ran the uni filters in my car a little bit. They work OK, but do choke the motor down a little bit. John Plow ran them from Conneticut to my house in Detroit with no problems.
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: ESH on January 13, 2008, 11:00:48 am How about them? If you look at the steel mesh on those and then cost in the filter material you have to think that they choke down the stack 25% +. I used tall filter 'socks' for a while and they still tended to suffocate things. I saw some of the tea strainer type on ebay that were raised so the surface area is bigger but I'm not especially convinced about them either. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Weber-Carb-40-44-45-48-DCOE-IDA-IDF-Stack-Filters_W0QQitemZ150169956814QQihZ005QQcategoryZ33550QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Diederick/DVK on January 13, 2008, 11:11:38 am so, nobody is using any type of filters here?
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: ESH on January 13, 2008, 11:28:37 am I did initially with DRLAs but am not currently with IDAs. I'm not overly comfortable with running open but since we have a damp climate and we don't generally have too much airborne dust to worry about so it's not as big a issue as it could be. That said I do check for signs of rodents after evey trip.
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Harry/FDK on January 13, 2008, 16:23:15 pm I'm thinking of having 4 nylon rings machined which are clamped on the velocity stacks with 4 motorcycle K&N's.
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Diederick/DVK on January 13, 2008, 16:38:16 pm like this?

Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Dokke/DFL on January 14, 2008, 12:44:57 pm But it doesn't look that good ... isn't it ?
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Bewitched666 on January 14, 2008, 12:46:31 pm Nah is less sexy of course but running them on the road requires some sort of filtering,on the strip i will run without ;D

I'm using pipercross socks on my stacks, no ty-wra(r)ps needed, cheers a pee-shooter Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Diederick/DVK on January 14, 2008, 16:07:17 pm hi jens,
did you get those somewhere in your neighbourhood? ;) Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Zach Gomulka on January 15, 2008, 01:55:06 am I remember Mark Herbert saying something to the effect of, "Air filters are for people who want to make their IDA's look stupid."
I agree ;D Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Bruce on January 15, 2008, 03:22:00 am This fits:

anyone running these? Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: JS on July 21, 2008, 17:13:10 pm Yes. I canīt tell any difference if I run them on the carbs or nothing. Easy to fit. Recommended.
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Sam K on July 22, 2008, 02:33:21 am I bought a set of those filters from Dave Greiner in April and I've been very pleased with them. I know a couple other guys who have them and are happy as well.
Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Sarge on July 22, 2008, 03:28:54 am http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=602290 (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=602290) anyone running these? I have them but still like the looks of open stacks...just depends on whether or not your an "air filter" guy. If I was commuting in my car every day, MAYBE I'd think about using them, but for Saturday Sunday cruising, I'm out. Also, for you guys who have notched the #2 cylinder velocity stack for deck lid clearance, you may have interference problems with the screen contacting the deck lid. Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: Jason Foster on July 22, 2008, 06:41:43 am I agree with Sarge no stacks here either it just looks so right without 'em.
I did try the weber redline ones for about 10 mins. but they restricted flow way to much. I don't daily drive my car but drive it quite often easily up to 100 mile round trips all with no filters. The add is in German, don't hesitate to contact me in English. I have them in 2", 2.25" (IFD), 2.5" (IDA) and larger on request for Geers Stacks. Special sizes and shapes are possible. Just need a drawing. These are the best stack filters you can buy! Cheers Dom Title: Re: ida 48 filter Post by: WhiteTrash on July 22, 2008, 22:15:14 pm hi jens, I run the same Pipercross socks as Jens and have just driven from Bournemouth/UK to Chimay/EBI to Berlin and back to UK. 1200miles. They work fine and ristrict airflow only that the AFR drops by 0.3-0.5.did you get those somewhere in your neighbourhood? ;) http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=P/CC1051 |
