car is based on a 1972 italian model of dune buggy that i found near pisa, named AUTOZODIACO DESERTER, an italian clone of DAC AUTODYNAMICS DESERTER. surprise, when u cut some fiberglass (pay attention, the dust goes even in your ass crack and it is not a big pleasure!!!!! :o :o) it is very close to a manx!!! car was sitted in a field for years but not in a very bad shape. so we picked it up and began to restore it

then i had the fortune to find two new old stock autozodiaco bodies from the seventies...one molded in yellow and the other, that i used, in purple. i think that this colours (purple..pink..) are very cool on these cars....which are kitsch in their nature 8)

so the body was new, and with the body came a couple of bucket seats nos of the seventies....all for the big amount of 200 euros!!!

the frame was painted and i added a new home chopped and hand polished window frame. no wipers.
then came an inox steering column with a moon rev counter on chrome pot, grant 10" wheel, 1967 shifter, and inox marine dash sitches from a boat (very cool cause this boat was caught from the police doing some outlaw business and wrecked)

then inox polished rollbar is added from the factory that does inox tubes for riva boats!!

the steel wheels (best choice for a nostalgia buggy in my opinion) are 5x14 and8x15. i am painting that wheeels metallic bronze and next week i will mount that flotation tyres and wide ovals on the front.

big amount of parts were rechromed artigianally, like for example the original headlights, the and the hubcaps, that are treated just like old empi ones. they are porsche 356 nipple cap,no logo. you can't find them anymore on the market, so i had to take ones with logo, have holes of logo welded and then rechrome all.

so we came to the engine , that you can see in the picture. waiting to set a porsche 912 unit with 48 idas, i wanted to do something smart on the 1200 cc engine that i found on the car that was running great, so i bought a 010 distributor, empi nos dress up kit and dynosoar replica valve cover, that i polished and painted.
mufflers are cheap and off the shelf, but they are painted white just like their era, and inlet manifold is chromed artigianally.

i imagined do build car that could have been in 1968-69, the first years of big explosion of phenomen.

i really wanted to have original 58-61 round combi rear lights, only one red light doin all like in the usa....but felt that this is not good with the italian law....so i had to do this thing:
-mount combi lights
-mount hideable amber flasher
-having a very clever friend of mine doing an electronic system to change european system to american with a button.

so when you hide amber flasher and turn button you have the american system....very good with a black california plate when you go to big meetings...
