Post by: speedwell on July 25, 2007, 15:29:45 pm fuschs were put on a cal look ??? ??? ,early 70's ??? i remember a vw greats cover with red cal look in was december 75 but i 'm looking in my old issue(73 , 74) and never saw a cal look with fuschs wheels in the magazine , who had the idea to put porsches wheels on a bug ::) ;D

Because Porsche owners in early 70's wanted to update their cars with wider tyres/rims and narrower Fuchs were available cheap and sizes/offset suited (even better than some aftermarket vw-wheels) Beetles? Because people wanted to use Porsche parts in Volkswagens? Performance they were the First To Re Drill Drums and Rotors and Made The First Sets of Large 5 Bolt to Porsche 5 bolt Wheel Adapters Back In the Day Most Porsche Owners Were updating the Cars to look like the newer Models with Flairs,wider wheels and Bigger Brakes, When I worked at Auto Haus back in the Mid 70's you could Buy a set Of Porsche Alloys for about $400.00 a set back then the 15x7's were a little more because the Porsche Owners ran the 7's in front and A wider wheel in the rear Some of the First car to Run Alloys was Keith Goss (Chopped Top), Roger Grago( K Ghia), Frenchys Ghia, Geno Combs Notchback all ran alloys in the 70's
Title: Re: when was the first time.... Post by: Bryan67 on July 25, 2007, 17:02:45 pm Yeah, I can remember a friend of mine buying a set of 4.5`s and 5.5`s with tires from a guy building a wide bodied Speedster replica. The price? $450.00. Thats was the late 80`s and that was kind of expensive.
