Title: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 16, 2013, 21:41:39 pm Hi Guys, My name is Sebastian, I'm 28 years old and from Germany. I would like to show you my 76 bug.
Bought with 18 and drove it the first years original, due to the small budget ;) Then lowered it back and front and fitted polished Baby Fuchs rims: [attachment=1] [attachment=3] [attachment=2] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 16, 2013, 21:52:32 pm Then finally after some years, the old and lazy 1,6liter engine was removed forever ;D
Finshing the engine bay for some nice look: [attachment=1] [attachment=2] [attachment=3] [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Neil Davies on September 18, 2013, 06:53:10 am That's a nice looking car! Even the lower rear end looks right with the later wings and lights. Tell us more about that engine - looks impressive so far!
Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 19, 2013, 18:11:23 pm Hey Neil, thanks for your feedback.
Engine has 2.332 ccm, 94mm cylinder, 84 stroke, H rods, FK87 cam, straight gears, 48 IDF Weber [attachment=1] I was driving a CSP transmission with a longer fourth gear, really good for 50hp, but no HD side plate, no super diff, no welded syncho hubs, original driving shaft, so sold it... The new one with 3,44 axle ratio to increase second and close the gap to the third gear, here a comparison between old and new tranny: [attachment=4] Ready to go in [attachment=2] [attachment=3] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 19, 2013, 19:48:29 pm Some Autometer units to keep an eye on everything
[attachment=1] [attachment=2] [attachment=3] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 21, 2013, 14:32:33 pm Some safety changes, Kerscher disc brakes front and back.

[attachment=1] [attachment=2] [attachment=3] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Type1/DVK on September 26, 2013, 21:34:43 pm nice beefy late looker! good with the repairs, and nice engine!
Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 27, 2013, 09:39:36 am The floorpan needed a little bit of repair:
[attachment=1] [attachment=2] [attachment=3] [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 27, 2013, 10:15:41 am Same on the passenger side, but not as bad as the driver side:
[attachment=1] [attachment=2] [attachment=3] [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 27, 2013, 16:42:47 pm Looks supicous underneath the rear wing..
[attachment=1] Some old repairs done on the body: [attachment=2] Always good if the previous owner knows how to repair rust holes properly, just welded the new sheet metal over the rusty area >:( [attachment=3] Cut out everything and do it right [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 27, 2013, 16:50:07 pm [attachment=1]

[attachment=1] [attachment=2] [attachment=3] Really helpfull, with a brake to secure and easy to move in all directions [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: AntLockyer on September 27, 2013, 19:08:25 pm Neat.
Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Prowagen on September 27, 2013, 20:56:28 pm This is going to be a nice looking late model!

Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 28, 2013, 15:22:32 pm Thanks for all the comments so far, really appreciate :)
Hey Rob, yes you're right. That's a Remmele engine, but I do not work for him. Peter, color is called Panama Brown, of course original and apart from the wings never repainted. Matthias, thanks. Your bug is also really nice. Red fits a bug so well and looks awesome with the gasburners! [attachment=1] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: richie on September 28, 2013, 15:41:22 pm some nice work there 8)
Just an observation, it looks like you got the pushrod tubes the wrong way round, it looks like the small end is to the head and it should go towards the case, I could be wrong if my eyes deceive me, I haven't got my glasses on :o ;D cheers Richie Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 28, 2013, 15:54:31 pm Hey Richie,
your eyes do not need any glasses, you're right, it's wrong ::) [attachment=1] I have to anyway remove the oil sump soon, then I should turn them in the right direction. Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 28, 2013, 18:50:03 pm Who from VW had the brilliant idea to fill the c-pillar with this strange foam keeping the humidity at the bad protected body >:(
And that's what happens: :o [attachment=1] [attachment=2] Rust holes starting from inside. Removing the foam piece by piece with a metal rod ;) [attachment=3] [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on September 28, 2013, 21:07:24 pm Further repairs...

[attachment=2] [attachment=3] [attachment=4] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: modnrod on September 30, 2013, 22:35:59 pm I hate that foam crap, I'm STILL scraping it out of my '73 Super. >:(
Nice work. Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on October 02, 2013, 17:44:08 pm And that's the consequence of the foam inside, when using an angle grinder with a steel brush it looks like a Swiss cheese :o
[attachment=1] I did not want to remove it complelety, thought its gonna be never as smooth as before this angled section. So welded it by pressing a piece of aluminum from the inside against the welding, not to shoot bigger holes in than before [attachment=2] [attachment=3] [attachment=4] Will be smoothed with some tin / filler later on... Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on October 27, 2013, 17:58:49 pm Some metal forming forming, like deep-drawing to make the appearance more original:

Removed the torsion bars completely, I could really feel the difference during first test driving ;D

[attachment=1] The right side does not look too bad: [attachment=2] Sh**, the left side does :o [attachment=3] Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: jeff01 on December 01, 2013, 17:39:10 pm What coils are U using? Are they main coils or just added to standard torson?
Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on December 02, 2013, 19:13:55 pm The coils are from FK Automotive, the main one is a FK1069, I do not know the the pre-load spring type right now
[attachment=1] I removed the original torsion bars completely. Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: UltraOrange67-2443 on December 02, 2013, 22:11:51 pm What happened to the nice polished manifolds?

Ah now I understand, some pictures showed polished ones next to the crankcase and piston. These weren't mine. Disc brakes all around are from Kerscher Tuning. Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on December 03, 2013, 20:46:39 pm [attachment=1]

Title: Re: My 76 Bug Post by: Senfsepp on December 27, 2014, 16:51:08 pm This time I used a paint roller for this special paint, which is robust and protective. The shop mixed my colour for this product, Brantho Korrux 3in1. But I also made quite some good experiences with mixed spray cans, depends of course on where you buy them.
