Title: Thread Sealant
Post by: DKK Ted on September 26, 2013, 05:39:14 am
Just a simple question, what is everybody using for thread sealant for senders on the case? Besides tape. With tape can over tighten and crack the case.

Hi Ted

Loctite red or blue, don't know the part numbers from memory and am away at the moment, maybe 577?

cheers Richie

I use a sealant I get from the local hydraulic pipe suppliers. Works a treat and never had a leak at any joint when using it

The bottle has a bellows moulded in to the body of it so it's really easy to apply as you can "pipe" onto the joint

I'll get out in the garage and have a look later.

Regards Ron

The picture above reminded me of another problem I had - full-flow inlet rarely tightens up in the just the right angle. With stiff steel-braided hoses, I had to use a small support brace (just a 90 degrees bracket with bolt and 2 nuts bolted onto crankcase's T2 support inlet) to support the inlet hose that it won't crack the hydraulic sealer and come loose & spill oil.

Loctite make at least 3 tapered thread sealants:
565 higher strength, up to 150C.
567   low strength, higher temp resistance and more Teflon so there is less galling for stainless/aluminium, slow cure. up to 200C.
Don’t use much, you don’t want Teflon in the oil system.
577 med strength good for SS and coarse threads, fast cure, up to 150C. 11NM Mexx Likes this one
I use the 567.
the red and blue are regular nut and stud lockers and can be used too.

Hi

On this small (M10x1) threat combined with a bulky sensor I prefere med to high strenght.
577 or even loctide red threat locker.
