Title: One piece windows - what do you use?
Post by: Lee.C on July 29, 2007, 20:34:49 pm
Well as the title says guys I am thinking of using one piece windows in the 66 BUT I have heard that all the kits out there are pretty CRAP - So what experiences have you guys had, Which ones work best, which ones DON'T leak cos after camberg/EBI I am sick of getting wet  :D :)

So come on guys let me know what you use  :)

The Felt Channel is not a Problem you Can Get That easy enough it's the crappy scrapers the kits come with that sucks,  What works good is the Repop Split Window hood or deck lid seals they are a little wider then the later ones you can use them for the inside and outside scrapers you have to punch holes in them for the clips you can use the clips from the original outside type scrapers you just need more clips then what comes on them so you need to make a trip to the junk yard  lol

I got a tip from Daniel Hood about using the scrapers from a type 3 one piece window kit. They are longer and allow you to curve the ends up to the felt. I should have a picture of it somewhere but cant seem to find it.. It looks really neat..

64-68 winder mechanisms, bug pack scrapers, there is no perfect scraper, although i would like to try type 3 ones.

bugpack are felt backed, the others are rubber and grip the window, the others however, don't leave a gap at the ends

the main issue with them working correctly is the weight of the glass, going to try lexan next ;D

Donny B. showed me a neat trick he did with his one piece windows. (Hopefully he doesn't mind me posting these pics he sent me.)

He used another type of seal that he cut to fit and used a piece of welding rod inserted inside to make it keep its shape. He said that they don't make that type of seal anymore but I am sure you can find something like it. I plan to do the same with the '67 windows.
