Thanks Glenn. However I may need to revise my question.....where have people mounted a fire extinguisher in a Beetle with a full interior?!

I mounted mine under the dash to the right of the steering column.

Probably stating the obvious, but when deciding make sure it is accessible quickly .

If you need it , don't want to be fumbling around   8)

I used to have a small one mounted on top of the tunnel just in front of the gearstick.

i cant tell you how much i value a fire extinguisher, i was at spa in the early 2000's ( possibly late 90's) my memory has left me, i was crewing for pete bennet in bugster ( crewing being a loose terminology) :P  We were standing at the top of the pitlane wall where the end of the 8th mile is, a bug sponsored by udo becker ( or perhaps his own car) threw all of its internals out of bed and an engine fire ensued there was no extinguisher in the car and the driver watched as his car took fire , we ran to the garage to grab a fire extinguisher but the pit was almost down near the startline ( bottom of eau rouge) i was going to the nearest racers screaming for an extinguisher, by the time we'd got back the fire crew were on hand, however if the car had an extinguisher on board, less stuff would have got burnt, i never forget picking up hot bits of destroyed engine off the track.  :( every vw ive had since that day has always carried an extinguisher.

I'm pretty sure MSA regs don't allow for an on board extinguisher.   That's why I had to take mine out.

maybe it feel confident to have a fire extinguiser with you.
but a 1 kilo extinguiser there is not much you can do or you have to be very quick there as soon as the fire starts
or yiu have to know what you are doiing.

henk!!!

An on board system would be the best for fire supression.
All 3 of my race cars use a system similar to this.

Still having a hand held is important when a heat soaked race car ends up parked on dry grass.
When the car's very hot low slung headers and brakes start a grass fire under the car then use the hand held.
For quick access I would mount it on the floor under the driver's legs close to the seat base.
