Title: fitting straight cam gear
Post by: steve_pugh on November 26, 2013, 16:29:51 pm
Sorry to sound completely dumb.. But I have a Magnum Straight cut Gear for the cam.  It has dot on it which I know goes between the 2 dots on the Crank Gear. But the 3 holes could go on one of 3 ways...   How do I fit it?
(It didn't come with any instructions. )
Quick search shows that the Timing Dot should be inline with the groove of the back of the cam, and that in that position, the Cam lobe on the Other end will be facing DOWN..
Is this correct?

Also, the Cam gear appears to be aluminium not steel.  Is this normal?

Cool beans.  Thank you Richie. I knew it'd be simple.    :-)

Is there any advantage / disadvantage of running an Ali gear?  The crank gear is steel.   (Obviously...)
I've heard nasty things about gears with large oval holes.  But round holes are better.

i was asking about the ali cam gears a while ago and got the reply that they were fine with Berg duals but were not strong enough for berg triples (not chev size).
i have a new set that i plan to run but I haven't yet. I was after the weight saving. I have a couple of second hand sets with distorted teeth, i assume from too much spring, but might have been coil bind or engine destruction.
