Title: New Engine Project Coming - for me.....
Post by: DKK Ted on December 30, 2013, 01:28:27 am
Yup! Going to be starting my engine project, after I finish the one I'm doing now for a friend and possibly another for a friend, then mine. Have a new set of heads for mine 46X36mm and will be making a cam change. A secret.  ::) Hoping to get 235 HP, will see.

Hi Ted,

Sounds like a pretty stout street engine. Have you done the maths since you mention 235 hp? It would be nice if you could post the specs (keep the cam a secret if you like) so that we nerds can punch the data and find the actual result. Carbs? Head flow or type? CR? What intake manifolds? Engine size (stroke and bore)

It is always nice when the dyno results matches the maths.

Hey Randy, will be fun, taking my time on this, gotta get Jims done, also will be doing Scotts too! I'm thinking by end of next month for Jims, now that the holidays are gone. Scotts, by and way before the Classics, he wants it in car by then.

-BRBB- my spec's:

83X94 DPR Crank, Wisco Pistons
46X36 welded and ported, wedge port heads by Fred Simpson @ Performance Tech. kinda of something new he did for me.  ;D
Empi tall bigfoot manifolds, welded up and matched ported
My Spanish IDA's, completely gone through and modified by Berg, recently tuned up by Jack @ JC
Cam  ::) Custom ground
Full MSD 6AL box/dis.
CR, as close to 10.1 as possible, still want to use pump gas  :o

And this will be a street motor...and strip  ;)

Let us have some fun;

83 x 94mm = 2.3
To reach your goal of 235hp Fred will need to open up the intake channel to 40.7mm or approx 89% of the intake valve.

In theory the 40.7 mm intake channel will peak at 7450 rpms. 2.3 x 7450 x 12.5 / 910 = 235 hp if everything is being built correctly. You can forget peaking at 7450 rpms with tall Empi manifolds. Looking at the calculations from Mexx and using third order you will need a total intake length (from valve seat to the top of the venturi) of around 32cm / 13" You can spend some time with EA and find what difference the intake length will have on your engine. EA offers a free trial period.

Reaching 100hp per litre is doable and has been done several times. It will take some effort and the right combination of parts.

Beetlebug could you explain us the math behind your calculations?
