Post by: MC Dyno Don on March 20, 2014, 15:53:49 pm Ive had quite a few roller engines in my time and have always run 30 wt oil and NO synthetic..!! The bigger issue is the large volume oil pump which with anything else but a multi grade such as 10/30..20/30..30 wt, the engine will most likely suffer. You have done a good job thus far so my suggestion remains. The bearings ride on a "cushion" of oil and need to enshure that the oil is able to lubricate without obstruction. Roller engines are very reliable work horses and are designed to run with minimal pressure but you will be fine if you keep a good oil such as valvoline 30wt. racing oil which has more Zinc. Anything over 60lbs of oil pressure is excessive in my opinion. The recommended norm is usually 10lbs of pressure per every 1k rpm But in a roller engine it is not as critical. I have witnessed roller engines that actually lost oil pressure and kept running long after in a few off road situations. Be somewhat cautious upon cold start ups as with a large pump as in your project, The initial pressure could be quite excessive so use common sense and if using a gage, keep an eye on cold and warm operating temps to give you some idea of what pressure resides inside. All things considered you should be fine and have a sweet running engine that will rev to the moon. Enjoy..!! Hope this helps you..? Dyno

Thank you Plenty to work from Title: Re: What oil to run SPG roller Crank ? Post by: glenn on March 20, 2014, 16:46:56 pm Sorry but I just don't get it.
44x40 valves in a 87mm cylinder, do they even fit? 44mm oil pump, how does it not piss oil past the slinger? 36IDFs and W110 cam, sounds mild, I just don't get it. Trust me loads of things I don't get either...which is why I am going through it now Title: Re: What oil to run SPG roller Crank ? My thoughts exactly! I'm sure once you open it up the specs will be different. Title: Re: What oil to run SPG roller Crank ? (http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t677/cornerpoet/Porting1_zps4a589657.jpg?282) Anyway to tell what size pump we have here (http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t677/cornerpoet/Oilpump11_zpsfa356257.jpg) (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/cornerpoet/media/Oilpump11_zpsfa356257.jpg.html) Title: Re: What oil to run SPG roller Crank ? Title: Re: What oil to run SPG roller Crank ? Post by: fish on March 21, 2014, 12:18:22 pm Bradd Penn SAE 30 HP is extremely good oil BTW very cool looking engine compartment, like others have said a lot of things that don't make sense........those valves look waay too shrouded and ports are tiny for the 44/40 valves installed in anorexic heads, bin the 87mm and install some bigger 94mm or 92mm thick wall P/B giving you room to open the chambers and un-shroud the valves, while at it get the heads ported The EMPI HD Aluminium pump is 32mm, so it might still be ok but overkill for the engine. Post by: 71CALRIPPER on March 21, 2014, 13:45:30 pm I purchased the car for a daily but the whole car has a massive spec in terms of engineering I think this might be a little to off the wall for a daily.
