Title: Old cam, new lifters....
Post by: Jonny Grigg on March 31, 2014, 21:44:31 pm
May sound like a dumb question, but I have never found the need to ask before.

I am changing my lifters (Scat lubealobe to CB ultralight) and ideally I don't want to change the cam unless I need to.

Generally the word on the web is that new lifters = new cam, but is this the case? Some people whose opinion I respect and value have told me it is ok to run new lifters with a used cam provided I do a careful cam burn again- however has anyone got any practical experience of this, either good or bad?

The worst thing will be to have to strip this motor again as soon as I have rebuilt it.....

Thanks,

Jonny.

I've re-used camshafts several times with new lifter sets without issue. Proper break-in methods were used each time.
