Trying to fit in the mapping before then. Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on October 06, 2007, 12:39:51 pm few more updates, I just had a short pipe out of the turbo to run it up and for the mapping, but as my new 3 1/2 bends turned up i thought I'd make the tail pipe.
Oh and ive got some new seats, so i have to make for frames to suit, what a pain it is trying to set up a seat on your own! Tail pipe from turbo and wast gate all in 3 1/2 inch ( i know it should have an expantion section but theres no room!) Just got to finish weld the joints, and fit the lamdba plug and theres a v-band joint just behind the motor plate to fit. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/05102007106.jpg) Tail pipe exiting behind the rear wheel. chuffing thing is 6 feet long!. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/05102007105.jpg) New seat and the frame ive made up. (Berni is going to have to trim them so they look like the old ones.) Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on October 13, 2007, 02:08:48 am well its 2.04 am and ive just got back from the rollers.
it took 4 hours to get the thing started!, but we have found a few issuse's with the way ive routed the fuel lines, so thats getting changed, the motor has been running for about 3 hours while we set all sorts of things up. i can now re torque the heads and re set the valves ready for next weeks power runs and main mapping. good news is the motor sounds fooking ace and not one drop of oil leeking from anything! heads were running at 95 C and the oil at 100C and still 120 psi oil preshure tired, but proper happy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7fha1dTVg0 off for a shower and bed to cuddle up to the wife! good night. Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on November 11, 2007, 12:36:36 pm Sorry been some time since an update.
we were on the rollers 2nd Nov again for another 13 hours or so! the modified fuel system is working spot on, but im still havin issues with the rockers, after taking the heads off and re mesuring the springs, geometry ect, ive come to the concluetion that the rockers are shit and no way strong enough for the aplication (Autocraft roller tips). So after a few phone calls im going to install a set of Crower 1.5:1 rollers complete with the steel girdle, so it mean compleatly redoing the top end. ive got to machine off the 5 posts the old rockers bolted to and make a nice flat surface for the new set up to bolt to. I'll take some pictures of the process and keep you updated. the only good thing to come out of it is that i'll end up with maximum amount of lift the valves require. So hopfully more power! anyways just making the wife some breakfast then its back in the garage to strip the motor down ready for the top end redo! oh the joys of daft motors! lol Trailer. Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on November 12, 2007, 23:21:25 pm a few pics to show you whats happening.

This one of the heads all set ready to machine. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/27112007152.jpg) Mid Machining (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/27112007153.jpg) After Machining... (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/27112007154.jpg) To get the geometry correct, i set a valve at half lift with my spring hight tool (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/28112007156.jpg) I used slips to get the rocker hight set, then I machined the same amount off the bottom of the ali spacer. I supose if Paradise are going to make any more, then they would incorporate this set up into the head. As for it failing, we will have to see, i do have a backup plan if this happens. Got the motor and box all back in, i decided to detail the back half of the chassis seeing as it was mostly all over the floor! After getting the leads the right way round the motor fired right up, and settled down to a nice idle... as for hp, we wont know until we get back on the dyno. this combo might not work, but youve got to give these things a try. I'm going to be messing with cam timing as well. Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on December 27, 2008, 12:36:26 pm it will make boost from 3.5 to 4K rpm and the motor revs to 9K the power starts dropping off slowly at 8.3K Rpm. this is why we are changing to the larger Turbo with more airflow.
Martin. Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on April 08, 2009, 23:45:05 pm Just got back from the rollers,
Bit of a funny night, as we had to cut short the session due to a failed alternator. But New (much) Larger turbo and redesigned plenums and fuels system all works fantastic, It made the same HP as it used to at a much lower boost, with no increase in timing, Going to get another Alternator tomorrow then get back on the rollers to get the boost up to a proper level and start advanceing the timing, then start working on the water injection as that will allow us to get even more timing in it. night all. Martin Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Patte on April 09, 2009, 18:32:23 pm Nice :)

Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on April 18, 2009, 20:45:57 pm Thanks guys,
inbetween nappies and all that baby stuff, I managed to trawl through my data logs of the dyno session. Ive fitted a highspeed air temp sensor this time around and Ive discovered that the regular bosch unit ive been using for ages has been missing loads of info. the new sensor reads 250 times a second, and boy has it shown up some big flaws in the intercooler, its just not up to the job. so heres the new one, its just the core, ive got to get the jacket round it for the water and ice but you get the idea... its as wide as the car will take (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/DSC00155.jpg) Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Does it say "Godspeed' on top? Which part number for the air-sensor Martin if you would be so kind? I am getting curieus as well if it would show a big difference... Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Airspeed on April 19, 2009, 10:56:53 am Ok, thanks for the pointer. Sample rate is easily changed in the log settings in DTA. well the front air dam works a treat, the car has stopped trying to fly, I'll just have to keep an eye on it as the mph starts to clime. had a very good time at the euro finals, the best track i have ever driven on. Had a few issues with bogging at first due to the track, but i tuned the clutch round it and messed with the 2 step retard to get 28 psi boost on the start line. this resulted and a best time of the day of 9.86 @142 mph. the MPH was down in its usual. After a look at the data logs No 3 EGT was running cooler than the rest so upon investigation No3 inlet rocker bearings had failed. This may be due to the springs starting to go off and starting to hammer the rocker as they start to bounce. I wont be able to see until i strip the motor down. After looking into it a lot more it would seam the Rocker bearings are not up to the job, especially as I'm going to have to go up on spring rates with my new cam. So it looks like a redesign to make the rockers last the distance. I've looked at Jesel and many other rocker manufactures, bit can't fine a design that I'm happy with. So it looks like i may have to make my own. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/BrokenRocker2.jpg) (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/brokenRocker.jpg) I have also had some issues with the charging side of the car, the small race alternators that i have been using are a pile of Poo! and just not up to the job of charging a simple system never mind mine. I have found a really nice 75amp alternator and now the car is running at 14.4 volts all the time, it has really made a difference to the ignition system and the whole electrical system, brighter lights better starting and the motor sounded a lot crisper. I had to move the fuel pump to get the new alternator in, so i made a whole new bracket to hold them both. really happy with this bit now. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/DSC00324.jpg) (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/DSC00326.jpg) that's it for now, until i strip the motor down to evaluate bearings, new rocker requirements etc. Laters Martin Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Looks like weve got a solution to the rockers (thanks Don!) Ive got a new cam to tryout as the last one wasnt just how i wanted it. Im changing onto billet cylinders this year as the cylinder preshure is going a lot higher. My Fix to Broken swing axles..... Did this CV convertion to my mendeola last year, tested it at the finals and it didnt bust! launched at 28 psi seams to have fixed the broken axle situation. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/_DSC0471.jpg) The details are on my website. http://taylormachine.co.uk/Taylor_Machine_Services/930_Cv_Convertion.html Im now working on a sequential shifter for the trans, hopfully going to make it clutchless shift so i dont have to let off the power. The shifter is first, then im working on making a gearset with dog engagment. So no more busted prorings! must get back to it, this winter seams too long already! Martin. Martin Glad you enjoyed it, myself I just dig when you get the backside of a fast car...like this thread. I think both you and him are sort of the creative type, that always evolve things instead of giving up! And thanks for supporting the SCC! Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on May 25, 2010, 19:41:15 pm blimy its been a while since i updated this.... Baby's have been getting in the way!
Right then, Crower rockers are now across the atlantic on the Red Baron, to help them out of a hole. all the bearing carriers were cracking and just not up to the job, Team Red Baron are using a different style of bearing thats helping them last a little longer. but this is a short term fix. So what ive done with the help of Don is use a set of there development rockers, but ive had to mount them in a similar way to the crowers, as i didnt want to weld on the billet heads to much. take a look.. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/bc7357a8.jpg) this is how it started off (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/a1d23bd2.jpg) Just to get the layout right. (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/765a1028.jpg) I have also changed to sump scavenge so i have one -12 line from it to the pump, Hope it works otherwise i'll be ordering another sump! lol the red bit on the end is an inline cleanable -12 filter (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/autocraft/c2374ffb.jpg) theres also a new cam grind in there, trying some stuff out again.... if all goes to plan i should be on the dyno this week to see if all this rubbish works out Laters Martin Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! That it race ready again? Cheers Kev Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on September 05, 2011, 08:08:32 am Hello Kev,
Dyno is booked for tuesday. just have to see how it does. still need a better intercooler, but thats a winter job. Just miss racing so much that ive got to get to the Euros! Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Martin on October 25, 2011, 11:14:54 am finaly got a little time, so i rolled the car outside and left it running for an hour, going to heat cycle it a few more times then off to the dyno.
This was after 50 mins or so. this new JPM cam seams very responsive, and i have noticed the valve train is a lot quieter.. just have to see if it provides us with more hp. You can hear theres a headder leak on one joint to sort out, but all good heads were at a constant 75oC and the oil was at 90oC. Oil Preshure when cold Idle 120 psi 5000 rpm 140 psi Oil Preshure when hot (90) Idle 40psi anything off idle 120 psi. Happy with that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvwkoRzYv3M Title: Re: its been a long time, but tis getting there! Post by: Airspeed on October 25, 2011, 17:46:51 pm Nice!
