I'm getting to that stage in a 2110 daily build (cira 150bhp) when i'm thinking about tinware.

i run J tubes and was wondering which shroud will work. my issue comes with using a stock VW late twin port shroud, i wouldn't have anywhere to duct the air that would normally go to the heat exchangers, and blocking them off leaves them poking out and making the engine bay look a bit more busy, but would it also mess up the flow?

the other option is one of the scat 36hp twin port shrouds, are they rubbish? being in mind i live in the UK and 30C is CRAZY hot weather!  ;D

i'm wondering if i'm over thinking it too much?

also should i run a single port style shroud and just run an external cooler on a thermostat or stick with stock VW twin port ?

Anyone have experience of cooling issues or comments with any shrouds?

Type 181 fan shroud, Type 126 tins and every piece of stock tin including the Hoover Bit and little square tin in the heads.

"Scat" 36/doghouse shrouds work just fine with the rest of the factory tin. But, to do a proper job plan on working on the Scat just a little. I had to re-work mine a bit around the cooler, and the cooler exhaust cover. The thermostat flaps are easy to add also, if that's your thing.

Factory or aftermarket, you'll probably be tweaking fitment on either.

Agree - scat 36 is fine, But, it will need some work. I tigged the air vanes in mine, some weren't really secured well enough.

finding the "Thing" shroud is a bit of a task especially in the UK!

cheers for the input guys, i expecting to have to tweak the tins somewhat as its not a stock build, so happy with that.

but tempted to buy the shroud and then use VW tin for the rest, i already have the little air dams for the heads, and the under barrel square, those odd shaped long bits that go on the head too.

then will probably make up industrial tin as i don't have heat exchangers.

i'd like to run a thermostat also for quicker warm up, so can fit some flaps i have on a single port shroud to a SCAT one....

seems the top tip is seal it up good! do many people silicone the joins?

Doing a Scat shroud with factory tin work, Hover bit and industrial tin for J tubes. The drawings can be found on the Samba for DIY.

i have ran both and since i use the Berg linkage, Scat needs some work for this to be bolted on. modded the Scat so i can fit in the thermostat vanes

 i have also always added the venturi ring, since i was blasting them for coating, i figured i would just weld them on since i have them lying around.

now, whether it works or not, better or worse,  i have not seen any real time conclusive tests to prove this but then again i have never had any cooling issues as well

cheers guys, was it just a case of drilling the holes on the scat shroud for the flaps?

i've not heard any bad words about the V rings.

was going to make up some sled tins, doesn't look too bad!

More or less. Easiest method for this is cut up a junk factory shroud and make guides for the holes. I didn't think of it until after I did mine, but made a set for the future.
