Title: Best ball joints to use with lowered spindles
Post by: Matt Tobias on October 06, 2014, 22:59:05 pm
Hey guys finally getting back to work on my 67 and I recently picked up some dropped spindles.  I want to put adjusters in the beam as well to fine tune ride height.  If I end up lowering the car a bit more than the spindles provide, will stock style ball joints be okay?
TIA,
Matt

a bit off topic but when you build your beam make sure to install the adjusters to both lower the car and raise it so you can lift the nose to stock height for towing, etc. Most adjusters (at least the Sway-a-Way type) offer enough range to get the car quite low even if installed to lift it a little bit.

But don't do what i did, I put both adjusters with a deliberate slight rotation.  This meant that when fully wound down the nose touched the ground!  I could not get a jack under the front of the car.  It looked cool, but was so impractical.  Swapped the beam for a stock one and now only run dropped spindles.

I did that too ::)
Off with it again & repeat the cut, weld refit...
Was low though!

. . .  make sure to install the adjusters to both lower the car and raise it so you can lift the nose to stock height . . .

Hey Chris, does this also apply when using stock spindles?

I'm thinking that you wouldn't want to raise the car much above stock.
