Title: Another interesting topic ? Post by: RobtheManx on November 26, 2014, 19:48:28 pm Here you are Russel , you want something to get people talking haha !
This is another little project I've been building , mainly out of stuff i had lying around . Project stands me at around £1200 all in , start to finish ! My Baja ...yes its an oval ! ....... Sorry ! Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: Neil Davies on November 26, 2014, 21:18:11 pm Yes! That's ace! Are they my old front wheels on there, the 13" Saco rims with the mad offset? Looks great!

Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: Russell on November 26, 2014, 21:43:21 pm Oh dear.........
Not interesting more like shocking, that poor oval !!!!! However good fun ;D Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: RobtheManx on November 26, 2014, 22:05:52 pm Russel you did not see this oval before i started . the front and rear had been cut off already ( I made a baja flip front ) . the dash was so cut it was unrecognisable , semaphores welded up , heater channels non existent . It was a racecar at some point which been into the wall , pushed the B pillar in and pulled the A pillar backwards and had had a fairly major engine fire . I Paid £500 for the oval shell with one door .
The guy I ought it from was gonna make it a VolksRod , so as far as I'm concerned , I saved it ! Neil , your rims are still on the buggy , these are similar but are not split rims . These ones are destined for my 67 , the baja will maybe have some 13 x 7 spun ali rims . As you can tell , I love spun ali 13's ! This is just a bit of fun , and a way to use up a lot of the parts I had laying around . A whole car for less than £1200 , with a 1600 twin port , thats pretty good going I think . Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: RobtheManx on November 26, 2014, 22:14:53 pm Is the shock because I built a baja from an oval , or because I posted a Baja on the Cal Look Lounge ? ;D
If anybody want to restore this oval , its yours for £2000 ! Rob Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: Rocket Ron on November 26, 2014, 22:16:44 pm .

Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: modnrod on November 27, 2014, 09:48:57 am or because I posted a Baja on the Cal Look Lounge ? ;D ;D OOPS!!! I slipped........ ;D (http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc458/MODNROD/VW/SlammedBaja_zpsfacebe3a.jpg) (http://s1212.photobucket.com/user/MODNROD/media/VW/SlammedBaja_zpsfacebe3a.jpg.html) REALLY bad when I got it, front lowered so far it had been ploughing up kerbs for years, so just cut off! :o Note the 14" rims, the stainless flat Chrysler hubcaps, the "turbo" mirror, the Peppermint Blue aqua-yuk colour........... yep! Late '80s! 1.80 60ft-ers on radials between every set of lights I could find all day. That's what Baja kits are for I think, cheap (sometimes ugly and nasty! :D), cheerful and light little hotrods Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: jick on November 27, 2014, 13:58:39 pm Love it Rob!
I have a rough front ended 68 in the barn that I'd thought about Baja-ing... There was an immaculate black lowered one in some magazines some years ago.. It looked fantastic. Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: RobtheManx on November 27, 2014, 15:26:51 pm Hi James/Jick , The guy with the black one is called Ryan , he made his baja panels quickly removable , and he also had a full set of gasser panels from me . So in less than an hour he can turn his car from a slammed black baja into a slammed black gasser 1 excellent idea .
Cheers , Rob Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: Good-Old-Ragtop60 on November 27, 2014, 17:46:29 pm Hey Rob,

It's a beetle not a Bus or a Van and that's great news in my book. Any money or time not spent on a Bus or Van is Good news for the VW scene right now. ;D Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: jamiep_jamiep on December 02, 2014, 17:08:44 pm Love it Rob!

Would love to have done a rag top . I have the same type of deck lid too , so much better looking than the weird scoop ones which cover the vents and retain the lines of a bug . Post by: RichardinNZ on December 02, 2014, 22:16:32 pm I have to admit that as my first 'VW' was a Tamiya Sand Scorcher in about 1980, I have a soft spot for a 'bug eye' Baja...
Title: Re: Another interesting topic ? Post by: Dave Rosique on December 02, 2014, 22:36:33 pm Thanks guys!
I bought the rolling shell real cheap off CL a number of years ago. Best part was the ragtop, black plates & it's rust free. I really got lucky! The car was cut in the early 70's. It now has very simple running gear.. AS21L case, 78X94, 044 heads with a little work, Engle 110 & single Zenith. It pulls hard from idle & has lots of torque. Even has a working heater. I raised it a little & have KYB gas on all four corners. Still a swingaxle but I have everything to convert to IRS when I get around to it. Inside is all stock with exception of the Hurst shifter & steering wheel. Please note the Herrod Helper wing out back.. Not for everybody.. I take some heat about it but it's my trademark 8) Always surprised me how much people like this car ;D [attachment=2] Title: Re: Another interesting topic ?
