Title: Good rocker geo?
Post by: andy198712 on December 22, 2014, 23:08:44 pm
Hi,

If you could be so kind as to check my rocker geo.
I think its pretty good, the "how to hotrod your vw" book says at half lift you want the pad of the rocker in the middle of the valve. Which I seem to have. And also at half lift I also have the push rod in line with the adjuster.

One thing to check. When I set my adjuster, I set it at two turn out from the cup touching the rocker, is that right? It's still pretty close to the rocker, not hanging out loads...

Here's some pics, bugpack 1.4's and 86b, and lash caps.

Full lift

Or in inches

Half lift

(http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e222/andy198712/D811A3BD-3953-4853-BD22-91326DC5A20D.jpg) (http://s40.photobucket.com/user/andy198712/media/D811A3BD-3953-4853-BD22-91326DC5A20D.jpg.html)

And pad shot, it's not a perfect picture angle but as best as I can tell, where it contacts is centered on the valve cap

(http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e222/andy198712/A6205BBC-C23A-49EE-8A6D-3ADDFF60FE8C.jpg) (http://s40.photobucket.com/user/andy198712/media/A6205BBC-C23A-49EE-8A6D-3ADDFF60FE8C.jpg.html)

And push rod angle vs adjuster angle

(http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e222/andy198712/8596EEC5-463C-4474-9740-9FE90759A5EF.jpg) (http://s40.photobucket.com/user/andy198712/media/8596EEC5-463C-4474-9740-9FE90759A5EF.jpg.html)

And finally the swipe

Any input would be ace!

Thanks

Andy

Agreed :)  With the adjuster screw, just make sure that its out enough so oil can pass through, typically i find 3 turns out works best, but that is with scat rockers, I havent used those Bugpack ones

Thanks Richie,

Ah yeah, so compare the drilling in the rocker with the drilling/groove and make sure they line up nicely, i'll double check that this eve and cut my pushrods to suit.
Re the Bugpack rockers, out the box they were pretty shitty in terms of squareness, took a lot of flatting off to allow them to move smoothly without binding at set angles, shims were pretty rough ect but they are a budget kit, and i think the difference you pay in better rockers shows through in the finish and hrs they have spent doing so, if i didn't have a lot of hours in these rockers i'd switch to scats or CB or even Pauters but i've spent AGES getting them working nice then DFL coating them  ::)

I'll check the oiling and start chopping my pushrods (something that makes me nervous)

All the best

Andy

Just checked, and measured the hole depth from the top of the rocker, then measured the groove from the top of the adjuster (13mm to 17mm) and installed the adjuster, set it to two turns out (purely as thats what i did my mock up with) and the hole is at about the 16mm mark on the adjuster so i'm within my 13-17mm window so happy with that. these adjuster have quite a generous groove which helps.

If any of that makes sense   ??? ;D

Thanks!

I always squirt brake cleen through the oil passage from the shaft side of the rocker arm, ( just as a sanity check) it will come out the cup of the adjusting screw.  ;)
