Title: Favorite place to drive your Looker?
Post by: javabug on August 30, 2007, 15:45:23 pm
Where's your favorite drive with your Cal-Looker?  Cruise downtown to the burger joint?  Backroad through the county?  Over the mountains?  Out on the highway?  Around the fairground?  On and off the trailer?   ;)  Through the waterbox at the dragstrip?

I love getting mine out on the interstate cruising at a nice highway clip.  In the future when the car gets re-done and the motor built it is going to see some serious miles.  Road trips around the east coast, and maybe even a cross-country.

I knew this would be right up your alley, Jim.

I agree about rural roads also, but out here in PA at least, they are often less than smooth.   :-\

In the old days, my favorite drive in the '63 was to OCIR for Wed or Sat drag racing.  The '69 was a different story...much like Jim's comments.  That car handled great and there are very few roads that it didn't travel in California at one time or another.  As for the '67 I'm driving now, my favorite drive is the monthly trip to Nick's (with a stop at Bill Schwimmer's for a couple of cold ones).  I also enjoy a 20 mile loop around Chino...it's still rural enough to throttle up for some wup-ass!

Plus you get to hear TWO sets of 48's growling through there.

What is it about the sound of multiple sets of 48's...? 8) ;D

I agree about some of those canyon trails you guys have out there.  I've been up through Topanga Canyon, which probably isn't TOO far from you, Jim.  I've also been on the notorious Ortega Highway.  That last bit where it drops down to Lake Elsinore would be a hoot in a good car.

Stop showboating Mr Bate! ;D ;D

My fave drive recently was the dual carriageway leading to Goodwood, long cambered curves, a club fly past... and plenty of room to brake! ;D

In my area we have a lot of canopy roads. One of my favorites is Meridian road which is on the way home from work. You can cruise down it shaded by all the trees. It has some nice curves in spots and some straight spots for speed. It can be a bit dangerous at night though due to deer crossing the road. A friend of mine hit one with his bug and it pretty much totaled the car.

Back when you could actually drive around Orange County, one of my favorite drives was Laguna Canyon Road.  You could begin or end a trip to the beach on a nice, gently curving country road.  My wife and I spent many weekends cruising up and down Pacific Coast Highway in a VW...good, cheap entertainment and beautiful scenery.  Now days, it's pretty much gridlock.  Memories.  :)

Any place our club drives in a group. There's always bound to be trouble whether the police are around or not.

Late summer evening, sun nice and low but still warm with a nice orange glow on the few clouds, windows down and a nice rumble coming from the rear cruising along on a nice b road 8)
