Title: Dog house fan shroud Post by: mangorockfish on February 06, 2015, 08:04:26 am I have a '70 bug that I want to replace the stock fan shroud with the rounded dog house style. What changes will I have to make to do this? Will my fan fit this and will I have to change my stock cooler. Also, what is the best remote oil filter set-up?
Title: Re: Dog house fan shroud Post by: richie on February 06, 2015, 09:25:01 am The 36hp style shrouds with doghouse cooler provision will fit all your stock parts, sometimes they need a little trimming down the bottom where they touch the case to get them to fit nice

I have read (no, I don't believe everything I read, but......... ;) ) that removing the oil cooler out of a rounded 36HP shroud upsets the airflow distribution between the cylinders, causing localised hotspots. I've also read that it doesn't! :D Since I intend to not use the stock doghouse cooler for one reason or other, could I use a 36HP fan shroud WITHOUT any internal cooler and get even airflow distribution? Have you had to do any added tricks to make them work effectively, or just bolted them up? Title: Re: Dog house fan shroud Post by: richie on February 10, 2015, 14:23:22 pm I am using aftermarket Scat 36hp "style shrouds" that are designed to not have an oil cooler in them, they have a cutout in the back to run the hoses out to a remote cooler from the factory cooler location via an adapter.
