Title: need help regarding venturis
Post by: nicolas on September 05, 2007, 21:52:01 pm
i ran the car a coupleof times and it runs ok,  but not great.
it is a modest 1641 with W 110 cam and heads have been reworked and have 40x35 valves. it is a great driver but after the inspection i want to have it 'tuned' a bit better. i have just found some 32 vents that would fit the 40 webers. so i plan on running those.
but for now i have only 28 venturis (it's what came in the carbs when i bought them)
at the moment i run 115 fuel and 200 air and 45 idle. but i have to change things if i want to run the 32's. but i have no clue what. my book says something in the neighborhood of a 135 fuel and 200 air, but nothning about idle or emulsiontubes.
any suggestions before i go and buy a whole set of jets?

The "general" rule is venturi size X 4, so 32mm X 4 = 128.  Start with a 130 and add the 135 after you've driven the car a while to see if it improves any.  As for the idle jets, I'd bump to a 50.  Emulsion tubes, maybe f11?  Good luck!

I wouldn't bother with the larger vents.  You don't have enough motor to warrant bigger vents.

Where do you live?

belgium is where i live. i will try them anyway next week, but indeed my engine may not be big enough. but i had 40 dells at one point and they ran great, except for the idleing, they just choked or died on me, but if you hit the trottle it went of. and those carbs have bigger vents. 30 vents and 125 jets and 180 air. but i can't run them on the street like that. i may have to have them rebuild to make them work, but i think the IDF's will work as well if i get all the vents and jets right

Hi Nicolas.

Where do you live in Belgium? I'm not far from Marche en Famenne.

I'm building also a modest 1585cc. With a w110 ( I think I should put another grind for what I plan to do with it as a vz14 or a w100).
Carbs are kadron, heads are from LoÎc Charpentier. 043, stainless steel valve, bugpack spring etc.
I'm planning to enlarge venturis to 30mm max. According to what I've read, it is a good combo. I will first test with stock venturis and jet to see how it runs.

You can use this calculator, if you don't know it. http://www.flat4ever.com/?page=carbus
If you are with single springs  (reinforced), max rev will be 5.500t.
A friend run a 1600cc with 40idf and change to 36 drla with 30 venturis. I will tell you how it runs.

hey

i live in diest, that is a bit far from marche, but i will go to DDD and see how the car runs. maybe i will switch a little with the jets and not the venturies yet.
thanks for the calculator it is of great help.
and regarding the cam, i have heard really great response from the W100 in engines, but i run a W110 and i am quite happy as well.

so maybe till later
