Title: Russ Fellows
Post by: Martin on September 07, 2007, 11:34:51 am
Rus has made it to the track. his first run was a stedy light throttle as the clutch is slipping.  10.4 @ 122 mph 1.53 60'

hes just pulling the motor to tighten up the clutch.

by the way he drove there in the car over 200 miles! all this weekends runs are on pump gas.

Good work Russ ;D Pulling the motor to adjust the clutch, typical Russ, can't have a wing nut like the rest of us :P

Doe's he still swap the doors on the car for glass ones when he gets to the track?

spec of the motor for people who dont know.

Pauter block
Moldex 90mm crank
Pauter Rods
CP 101 pistons
Autocraft 910 heads with water jackets
Pauter turbo cam

Met Russ yesterday for the first time what a nice guy.......Pauter were horrified when told he proposed the car would be driven to the pod...."this is going to put more miles on the bottom end than most cars will get in a normal racing life" quality it,s guys like Russ and back in the day John Maher pushing the envelope, that gives racing a huge push forward, and sees the rules potentially being rewritten in terms of what is achievable in a street driveable race car.I guess there will be a lot of people both in the states and here (vwdrc, outlaws)and the french /german/belgians,watching the developements with interest. This car sounds and performs VERY differently to what we are used to.It,s not overly loud or dramatic at launch, and sounds big(not very technical, sorry ;D)which it is at 3 litres :o......and definately hasn't hit it's potential yet.
Well done Russ, can't wait to see it once the clutch issues are sorted.....be afraid people....the oldun(who'se measly 2276 hasn,t yet managed a single succesful run ,but then I,m an idiot ;D

For want of a better word.....Awsome. ;D

I still can't get over the fact he MOT'd it Thurs morning, drove it there and ran a three 10's.. then a 9! no dyno time either, straight out of the box :)

I don't think so, I could only make it Fri but been glued to Eurodragster all day, not sure if he qualified the rules to Complicated Eliminator are a bit baffeling, his index to run was in the 8's!!!

Actually thinking on it he may have done, think the results on Eurodragster are just the winners, I'm sure if he ran another 9 we would have heard about it by now.

No I have moved on and ran an 11.4 with Betelgeuse we will be increasing the boost on the dyno this winter. Maybe go for a flanged crank
I'm really looking forward to next year.

I loved the ghia but was going nowhere with the weight of the car. Ran a 12.7.

I have to finish the cal-looker as well so its all fun  ;D

Hell they all have MOT's are insured and 'can be driven on the road for a good distance.  its all good. faster vw's is what its all about

i dont care if you change onto methanol, use loads of gas run big turbo's, there out there doing it, running super gas times. and to me who's been into dragracing for god knows how many years, running super gas times is awsome, let alone being able to pop to the shops in them!

So long as the motors stay in the back and we have to use a clutch to change gear and pull on that shifter. thats what maters to me. its fooking incredible that this little old motor designed in 1938 (ish) can do so much!

I just hope my car can live up to the above, which sometimes i have my douts! but time will tell.

Well said Martin  8)

I don't have any doubt's even as you have already said all you have to do is pull on that shifter :)

Good luck and we need to know when you are going to unleash the beast.

Think about what Martin  ???

I seem to remember him mapping it on the M56 whilst being mot'd and taxed. That's my definition of street legal in my book  ;)

And he drove the bus to York and back with the same engine in the bus. That's 100 miles each way  ;D

Martin there's no need to take your car all the way up to Manchester to get a M56 MOT
you can just call Ritchie and get one through the post for £50 but I guess you know that
 ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

It's a bit dodgy though sometimes you pay £50 and get nothing except ripped off  ::)
