Title: Street Eliminator cylinder heads
Post by: leec on December 17, 2015, 23:04:34 pm
Hi guys,

What's the deal with these. Know very little about them but have started to collect some bits for a new motor for my 69. 71mm Tony Mance crank and 94's. The heads I have bought are 42x37.5 and unported.

Anyone used these heads successfully on the street? Anyone want to show me some of their port work as mine are as cast

Lee

Alan_U (Uyeno) used to run them on his 11s daily driver.  I think the heads where done by Kroc.

The engine build up section has some good shots of the ports.

Hi Lee,

I ran Street Eliminators on my 1835 13 second motor back in the early 90's. Regularly street driven and raced at the track. CR was around 11:1 running 98 octane unleaded pump fuel. No issues. No overheating. I loved those heads and they were same valve size as you have. Went up to a 44mm intake but no real improvement was seen on the JMR dyno as was hoped for. The heads had the usual JMR  3 angle valve job and were fully hand ported by John. From memory I don't think he liked the exhaust ports on those heads but of all the heads I have run over the years these responded the most to custom porting versus CNC profile and hand finishing of 044 ultra / wedge styles. Just my personal experiences so hope this helps.

Shane.

Thanks Shane,
I remember the blue car with that motor :) FK10 cam right?
I was considering having the seats cut for a 44mm valve but you saying it had little/no difference has changed my plan there.

Can't wait to start with the hand finishing

Thats funny as I also have most of the parts to build en engine with street eliminator heads from the late 90's. They are unported, cut for 92mm with 40*37.5 valves. I'm looking at them regularly, wondering what to do with them.
Plan is to build an "easy" strocker for street and maybe strip as I'm not far from Bitburg (Germany). Something like 76*94mm, a camshaft in the fk10 range, 44IDF as I have them and the manifold I have are for IDF. I feel I can port them myself, but don't want to trash them though. I search some infos about those heads and the best site is the one above with Darren Krewenchuk porting. It seems that inlet port are quite good, but exhaust ports need more work.

I will follow this treads to see what you will do  :)

He's still running strong with them, ( the chambers are different than the picture though )

What sort of taper and min throat do these heads have stock?
Would it be somewhere around 36mm at the flange and 33mm past the throat/guide?
Nice straight shot, I've never really seen them up close, nor used them before.

Hi K-ROC,

Would you mind share some ideas and advice about home porting for those heads? It seems like we have both Leec and I a project using the old street eliminators for a street-strip engine. Having them professionally ported isn't cost effective as for the same price of a port job, we could have a good set of heads with better cooling for the street. So, doing it by ourself is the best option and a good challenge  ;)

What would you suggest to do for a, let's say, a 76*94 with 40*35.5 valves?

Thanks  ;)
