Title: Question for folks who run Erco wheels
Post by: runningmonkey on January 19, 2016, 10:24:25 am

Just a quick one folks, iv just brought a set of Erco's, has anyone ever had any problem with wheel studs fitting to Erco wheels? The holes in the wheels seem like they are slightly too small for the studs? With a bit of force and a lot of wiggling I can get them through but them seem to tight to me and I don't want to damage anything?

Now I been told they're supposed to be tight as they use the studs to locate the wheels, as the washers are flat and the bolts don't centralise, The guys i brought them off has told me that the best way is to loctite one stud in each drum/disc, and leave that one in, hang the wheel on it and then wind the other studs in with the wheel in situ. If they were loose holes the wheels would never be central.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct? seems a lot of messing around to me?

Thanks in advance

When I had a set they were like that, I think its common for them to be like that.

Mine are tight, but I don't have to force them

Sometimes it's the studs that are off a bit. I remember mine a long time ago didn't fit over the studs that easy but a few times on and off and they started going on easier.

I just drilled the holes to a larger size, then used taped nuts to center the wheel -- worked perfect -- -- Just make sure that you don't drill the holes too big where the nuts will bottom out....

I can confirm that.
Ten years ago, Mark Herbert and I spent the day in Riverside at ERCO drilling bolt patterns for Eric.  The drill fixtures and drill bits were almost exactly the same dia as the intended wheel studs.
ERCO Trivia:  He can offer Wide 5 in both 12 and 14mm.  He can only drill Porsche 5 in 14mm.
