Title: my old friend got his 2165cc together
Post by: Jim Ratto on September 24, 2007, 17:35:15 pm
My old friend Richard got his 2165cc together and running. Here are some pictures of his '56 and it's new motor.

This car was around during the club activities in the 90's, but the old owner was never a member of Aufklarung. Car was never as cool as it is now...Richard has many years of hard work into it.

Kudos on the new monster.  :)

Nice looking car and engine.  Next you need to get him posting on the forums.  ;)

I'M READY FOR A ADVENTURE TED.

Here's from memory....
94 x 78mm
AJ Sims heads 42 x 37
Dellorto 45mm DRLAs
9.0:1
CB 2246 cam (314 deg x .460")
A1 sidewinder header/muff

Hopefully Richard will join in here and give us the lowdown.  ;D

I'm not 100%, but I believe that is my old 1776 case. It went so somebody in Livermore as a 1915 after the lifter bored were fixed. It may have been one of Richard's buddies who got it. Car does look a whole lot better than when Hawaiian Mark owned it. I thought it was destined for the scrap heap.

Jim, have you ever seen the cal-look 67 that Richard's roommate has? It's cool. I went to their house with a friend who was picking up some rockers from Richard. Maybe he will post some pictures.

We could have a really excellent adventure.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!  It feels great to get the car back on the road again and i owe a lot of that to Jim and his awesome advise.

I'm still tinkering with the carbs.  I'm going to try some different vents this weekend and see how it responds.   I'm also going to do some hard runs through the gears and then pull and inspect the plugs.

As for the specs, what Jim posted is pretty much the combo.

One question I do have for you guys would be plugs.  What do you guys recommend for this combo?  I'm currently running the NGK D7EA's mainly because I had an extra set left over from my old 1915.

Wasn't me, My case was bought right after the whole Buggy House mess and I got it from CB.  That may have been my old room-mate Tim that bought that case.

Good to see you here Richard! (finally! ;D)
I think most guys run D7EA or D8EA's. Are you having issues with them?
How is Tim, Gilbert?
[/quote]

Not having issues, just wondering if there was a more fitting plug for my combo.

Tim's doing well, I still head to the old house every weekend.  I think he'll be installing the new 1776 into his 67' Cal looker pretty soon.  Gilbert's doing well too.  I talk with him every once in a while.  He hasn't driven his car for a long time, but last time I was over there we were talking about all the changes he wants to make to it.  I think he's missing it, he's just been overwhelmed with all his newer toys (motocycles, wave-runners, boat, dirt-bikes, etc)

How about Zenjo? Is he still driving the wankel-bug?

Who?

Yeah, haven't spoken with him in over 4 years.  He got engaged/married, and stopped hanging out with ALL of his friends.  As far as I know he still lives in San Leandro and has two kids now.  He parted-out his bug a few years ago and sold most of it, including the motor (from what I heard)

YIKES. Those damned married guys!!!

Good to see you hanging around here. Lots of cool cars and cooler guys. Keep us updated on the new motor and so on. Don't be a stranger.

Don't worry, I wont be a stranger.   I already like this place much better!

Oh, and here's Zenjoes old website, as you can see, it hasn't been updated in a while.

I wonder where he got the idea for the paint scheme  ::)

This was my other 67 circa 1992 before I put the Fuchs on it.

Actually, I can honestly say that I've never seen your car before.  (That I can remember) I got my paint scheme idea after seeing a forest green and cream 57' Resto-custom from Sacramento that was at a Bugorama back in 97' or 98'?
I substituted the green for a Mini cooper color "Racing Blue" and matched the two-tone paint to the two-tone interior door panels (gray and cream) from a 60'  ;)

I was just messing with you.  ;) I'm surprised you never saw it, I was Jim's room mate and lived in Livermore from 1995-2000. I painted the car in 1991, grew up in Fremont/Newark and there was a kid with a 60 bug painted the same colors and he never saw my car neither.
