Title: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: MrIcka on April 13, 2016, 22:18:14 pm Hi!
I have been driving my 71 beetle for 2 years now in the Cal look style (https://i.imgur.com/w0g29iA.jpg) Before I turned to the stronger darkside ;D I was rolling low, like this (https://i.imgur.com/DvJwJBh.jpg) I have always liked the US-spec 67 with the upright headlight, even before I got interested in Cal look. Long story short I finally had a 67 standing in the garage. It was a started build that have been standing for a couple of years. (https://i.imgur.com/BI8UZhW.jpg) Of course I started to check whats was in all the boxes that came with the car. (https://i.imgur.com/l5EipEN.jpg) It hade some work that hade to be done. (https://i.imgur.com/PnKJWxG.jpg) I got a hold of a set of front fender to get the US-spec look. Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: MrIcka on April 15, 2016, 15:14:56 pm nice! what are your plans regarding colour? Thanks!I have always liked white Typ-1 so my first plan was Lotus White but i think that it's to yellow when i got the sample paint sent to me... So right now I'm thinking about Pastel White L90D, a Typ-2 color that is more grey-white. Sort of a lighter Fontana Grey. (http://www.ratwell.com/technical/GlasuritPaint/Glasurit-VW-Page04.jpg) Toga White is also a option, but that is more green... it's hard to decide :-\ Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: karl h on April 15, 2016, 19:38:50 pm my 72 sedan is L90D, ist a pretty common colour, about every other VW (all models)was painted L90D after 1970 ::)

Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: Rick Meredith on June 20, 2016, 05:37:03 am I don't know about European upright fenders but I believe that US '67 fenders have the headlights located slightly lower than '68 and later fenders.
VWOA would sell '68+ fenders w/o the bumper slots and punched for horn grilles as a replacement for '67s. The horn grilles were also not in the right location. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: karl h on June 20, 2016, 07:03:58 am there is a thread on the samba on the 67 differences, elaborating on the fenders

Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: MrIcka on September 19, 2018, 22:00:39 pm Thanks
@Karl h: Nope I didn't go with Marble Grey, when I looked at the paint sample I ordered it was to "blueish/cold". The color I chose is also a Porsche color, Linnen Grey. Nice 67 Karl! Lets take a step back and see whats happen since the last post In may I moved to a new garage that I share with 5 other VW maniacs (https://imgur.com/rtfNoq2.jpg) (https://imgur.com/WuiOLhP.jpg) I applied the sanding primer (https://imgur.com/B8TWJWB.jpg) And started to sand, and sand.... really boring I have never before painted anything with a paint gun so I started with som satin black on the gas tank (https://i.imgur.com/N2AJ1ri.jpg) Time for the car, first the inside and fenders (https://i.imgur.com/RoDX9GV.jpg) (https://imgur.com/hBCLHl8.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/IynKKgR.jpg) Then out side and inside the doors, hood and all smal parts... it a real big job to paint a beetle, remind me to not do it again =\ (https://imgur.com/hzhhqE6.jpg) Really nice to have the car painted, even if there are some imperfections... I will try to cut and buff in the spring. Atleast it looks good on picture =) No its time to do some fun stuff, assemble everything (https://imgur.com/GhQ9nmy.jpg) (https://imgur.com/scxlgSB.jpg) Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: bean on September 22, 2018, 14:03:26 pm looking really sharp, bet you're pleased

Hi thanks man! I first made a template out of paper, used magnets to stick it to the roof and draw a line around. (https://i.imgur.com/SOUVqCu.jpeg) I cut out following the line and then transfered it to a thin foam rubber. I then glued the foam to the fabric I bought. (https://i.imgur.com/tspJzVB.jpeg) Next, glue the roof to the car. I used spray contact glue on the fabric and foam and brushed contact glue to the roof of the car. With some help from a friend I mamaged to get it in place! Made it about a inch to big so I could stick in the edge under the edge on the car. (https://i.imgur.com/8N7VLTj.jpeg) Nice to finaly get rid of the spaceship roof :) (https://i.imgur.com/pYdc8gI.jpeg) Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: Odyssey on February 09, 2022, 12:01:11 pm thanks for taking the time to show your procedure :)

(https://i.imgur.com/hXVygCm.jpeg) The 3D model of the BRM I created my self in Inventor some time ago for my 67 modelbuild. (https://i.imgur.com/MrhNzRR.jpeg) (https://i.imgur.com/yADlSvY.jpeg) I need to finish this project.... Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: MrIcka on November 08, 2024, 17:16:14 pm I "needed" a way to keep the engine lid open, and the one to buy was to expensive here in Sweden, about 60$.
So I bought 1m stainless steel rod for 10$ and after making a templet i started bending it. (https://i.imgur.com/CDZxxYO.jpeg) Fitted some protectiv textile tape (https://i.imgur.com/zg3yAdE.jpeg) Done! (https://i.imgur.com/Gksbjfh.png) But now the enginebay needed some attention, to be continued... Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: MrIcka on November 12, 2024, 09:17:08 am Time to make some changes in the engine bay. I have had a par of Italian Weber 40 IDF laying for some years and now it was time to change out the China IDF on the car.
(https://i.imgur.com/5Fq4UXA.jpeg) What a mess! (https://i.imgur.com/mdjCChR.jpeg) (https://i.imgur.com/jjhUa02.jpeg) After a a thorough cleaning they turned ut nice (https://i.imgur.com/gJ7NMRM.jpeg) (https://i.imgur.com/3Nm867v.jpeg) Time to assemble Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: MrIcka on November 12, 2024, 10:15:17 am The rattle can painted engine tin was not a pretty sight. Fixed some holes and dents
(https://i.imgur.com/zH5efqI.jpeg) I painted it one of the colors I had in mind before I went with the Porsche Linen Grey on the Car. It's Porsche 6808 Burgundy Red (https://i.imgur.com/vkiCN0E.jpeg) It matched the color on the interior quite good ;) (https://i.imgur.com/pxVj05P.jpeg) Gave the lid for the breather box a touch up (https://i.imgur.com/bB2oOaO.jpeg) Turned out quite nice (I have now changed the bolts to allen bolts and nice aluminium washers) (https://i.imgur.com/iEvS8V2.jpeg) (https://i.imgur.com/iLwLDLS.jpeg) Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: Steve67 on November 13, 2024, 13:59:04 pm those colours match really well, awesome car!
Title: Re: My 67 Cal look build, "US-spec standard" Post by: andrewlandon67 on November 21, 2024, 19:45:11 pm Very rarely am I a fan of any color for tin other than black but the deep red to match the interior of a white car is a fantastic combo, that looks amazing!
