Title: CB rockers look right?
Post by: baz on April 30, 2016, 13:46:29 pm
Can anyone please advise on these cb 1.4 rockers, they don't look right to me. They are new used only for an hour or two on dyno

To me it looks there is a lack of lashcaps.
Can you show the heads valves ?

Is it me or do the profiles on the ends look different on each set.
plus the rocker geometry looks wrong.

The profiles look out by a long way to me too. Appears to me that one set gives more lift due to the different profiles

the tips look like they are backwards on one set.
yes it would make the lift and geometry different.

How do you mean backwards?

The wipe pattern on the lash caps looks good on 4 or 5 valves, tge pattern on each rocker doesn't match the other. Theres a small bit of wear on the rocker tips too, the oil hole in lash cap has made an impression also one rocker tip has noticeable wear i can feel across the wipe pattern.

On the lash caps the inlets are loose enough that i can get them off, the exhausts are tight and i haven't been able to remove them.

I put a straight edge across the lash caps on each head and got a surprise, on one head one inlet is a little low, on the other head one port is way off the other.

Low inlet

Straight edge held tight to one port

I understand some of this could be in the lash caps, but difference looks too big to me

I rook the rocker assemblies apart for a better look at whats going on. Here's a pic showing rockers from each set fitted side by side.

This isn't right surely?

The two rocker sets are odd forgings for sure, I'm surprised they got as far as being fitted, having said that, so long as the lift at the valve is the same on both banks, that may not be a concern directly, one set looks as it would be close to the retainer, but what is a concern is the wear showing already as there's not a deal of valve Spring pressure, I only see singles, ally or CM push rods? too much valve lash??? Just seen the inner springs on the right pic...
The wipe pattern is well to heel of the pad but looks fairly centred on the lash cap.
As to the valve heights varying, that's pretty much what you get un blueprinted, with due respect, this one should be picked up before the heads go on, quickest way to make all the installed heights the same is by shortening the longer valve stems, usually the intakes are taller than the exhaust, variations you have there really is not worth loosing sleep over, but a range of lash cap heights to set up valve stem heights is handy if you want to blue print them, or make adjuster shims from feller gauges and fit them under the lash caps.

There's no cb logo on these,  should all cb stuff have their logo?  I bought and received cb rockers in  cb packaging now I'm doubting these are cb?

Plenty rocker brands have no I'd on them, I tried some bug packs which don't, budget priced but seem very good,  tho CB like promoting the brand and usualy mark the forgings, these look and sound suss as you say😟 the packaging is the easy bit for a rip off job, did they come direct via CB or a 'distributor'?

I personally had four sets of CB second generation rockers fail on 4 different engines,I sent them back to get full credit, junk

The rockers i bought were cb no doubt about it whatsoever, they've disappeared though and been replaced with this junk.

I thought i had gotten over the run of bad luck with this engine,  this is a right kick in the balls and is more annoying than the dyno lock up.

Found a pic of my engine where i think i can make out a cb logo on no 4 ex rocker that is just visible. Anyone else see raised letters on the side of this?

Pic of the rocker i currently have, even the back of the tip has a different profile.

Man it's an outright dog low act to switch customers parts. I feel for you Baz, when you get the rockers sorted, polish the lash cap surface and rocker shafts before assembly.

First generation CB rockers had the logo embossed on each rocker, second generation didn't have any markings, just black oxide, every set I've seen are worn out on the lash pad

I bought mine in nov 2014,  not direct from cb but a uk supplier. Don't know which style they were but i remember they had cb on them. Engine was in my living room for a year and i looked at it often enough.
