Hi I am looking for someone in the Toronto area that is able to tune an electromotive fuel injection installed on a vw type 1 motor. Any ideas?

I'm in the same boat since Steve S. passed away last year. What is your car and engine? Did you install it yourself? I have a Tec3r on my engine but I would like to increase the boost and re-tune it someday. When the motor was new, about 5 years ago, we drove out to the Berlin Klassic where they have a dyno set up for $60 they will run it for you. The guys who ran the dyno said they could tune my engine and turn the boost up but I don't remember their name. There is a guy in Torrance, CA that was able to do some pretty good tuning over the internet -- was really cool to watch -- and then he did the final tuning on the Ghia on the rollers --

A ECU does a very simple job no matter what brand it is. Why dont you spend some time to figure it out yourself? It is fun and interesting and unless you are a complete idiot it is very difficult to do any real mistakes.

As long as you have set the fuel and the ignition the rest is compensation basically. Compensate for boost, compensate for temperature, compensate for oil pressure... you name it. Cold start, auto-tune and other nice-to-haves you can take later.

BB -- You've never tried to setup an AEM, I was getting real good at my Electromotive and a couple of others and the AEM really stumped me -- -- Scott Featherolf is great tuning AEM as he has it on the Baron, and he even told me to find a processional to set it up .. .. LOL -- -- and it has been at "the professional's" shop for a while now too as he sorts out all my weird ideas and tries to get them to work with the EMS-4

When I was out driving and had Steve S. riding shotgun tuning my Tec3r, he said 'do you realize some people spends several hundred hours tuning the ECU?' wow. We were out for a couple hours and did some good work on the tune.

BB it would be nice to figure out and learn. It looks like I have no choice to try but you can't beat someone that knows what they are doing. I know guys that build race cars and they pay to get their ecu tuned. I'm sure if it was that easy, they would do it themselves.  I have no clue about tuning ECUs so learning from someone would be helpful. Hopefully some light reading and if I can find a youtube video I might get lucky.

Martin if I come up with someone/shop will let you know.  I am running a  2L na type 1 in a 69 sedan with a 901 tranny. The eco is a Tec gt. I wired up myself. Just doing finishing touches and hopefully I can start up soon.

Street driven cars are much easier to tune than race cars, sort of...
You get way more opportunity to tune, though you have way more to actually tune.

Light reading isn't what you are looking for. Find the meat and potatoes, that's where the good info is.
 
I have definitely noticed a large gap in support systems for you poor Electromotive users. Doesn't seem like many tuners still want to touch that stuff. AEM, motec, haltec, and other big names seem to be taking over.

Feel free to post your ignition and fuel map here on The Lounge so that we all can have a look. Is the engine ready to fire? You have found the crank trigger and set the timing accordingly? I had a look at the TECGT manual and it sure has all you need and then some.

There are different ways to tune as well. On the dyno or on the street. Some tuners start on the top end and then tune the mid and low ends. Others start at idle and extrapolate for the higher end. Then test and tune. You can also tune at the track using quarter mile times. Steve tuned the Red Victor car to a world record time in 11 runs from scratch at the track!

Martin are you referring to Andy frosts car? I thought Shane T tunes it?

Yes that's the car, but it was in the mid-2000's that Steve went to England to tune it. He said he had a great time there. :D
I wish I knew where the video was of Andy's engine on the engine dyno at the Cosworth facility. The exhaust glowing red hot! And the hp went over the dyno's capability.

 A few years ago I called Electromotive tech for assistance, they were really helpful and were willing to give me a reflash and a close setup for the PCM . I ended up not using the EFI and it is still sitting on the shelf. The software looked pretty user friendly , maybe we will try it this winter.

I have met quite a few people that had problems with the Tec series. when we get the cars "on hand" it is 95% of the time because people do not pay attention to the simplest wiring ruling. I even met one guy that tore off his Tec3 and swopped it with a VEMS and claimed better hp and driveability on his 475 hp BMW. - Well,,,, lets just say that driving behind him made my eye´s sting. Even the TecS can handle much more than most VW aficionado´s need. Its a good system with LOTS of opportunities.
