Title: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on May 24, 2016, 18:28:31 pm Hello everybody,
after posting some pics in the late model topic and the kind replys, I decided to make a topic about my 69'er. First some history because we al love a good story. It al started 15years ago, was 14 years old and driving my bike from school when I spotted a grey beetle in the parking lot of a garage. It was a first owner car and has always been driven in a area of 20km around my town, the car had 96.000 original kilometers. Bought the car and I was hooked ;D! It looked like this my first time I did LeBugShow in 2004 (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/kever%20in%20spa%2004.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/kever%20in%20spa%2004.jpg.html) Then I repainted the car and lowered it. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0298.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0298.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0286.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0286.jpg.html) The car was far from perfect back them, so after a some time I decided to make the way I wanted it. The car went body off and then I bought a house, so the project was put a side for a couple of years. But now after al of these years it's almost ready to be driven again. now it looks like this. Not your typical cal-looker ;) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0573.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0573.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0562.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0562.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0572.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0572.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0570.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0570.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0496.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0496.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0553.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0553.jpg.html) The car is far from finished now, but I'm hoping to get it on the road with in the next month. I will try to update this topic a good as possible. Cheers! Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: VWGlassee on May 24, 2016, 19:03:33 pm This thing looks awesome! Cant wait to see it ;)

Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: BeetleBug on May 25, 2016, 07:37:13 am Love it!
How does the front mounted oil cooler perform? And what size oil pump and hoses do you use? Thanks! -BB- Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: Jesse Wens on May 25, 2016, 10:15:31 am Nice car Broen. Love all the chassis details.
We met a whole lot of years ago at Bitburg. I was the drunk guy who fell on his head the last night there, big wound on my head. Good luck finishing the car. Jesse Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: wolfswest on May 25, 2016, 12:19:48 pm Wow, I wonder how this little beast will drive! Driveline, brakes and steering setup looks promising.
Dem Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: Eddie DVK on May 25, 2016, 16:27:45 pm Cool car Broen especially the pan with steering box and beam stiffners.
Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on May 25, 2016, 18:49:27 pm Thanks for the replys, will try to post some pictures and info in the next couple of days.
This thing looks awesome! Cant wait to see it ;) I'm from Izegem, West-VlaanderenWhere in Belgium do you live? ;D Yannick The color isn't Savanabeige, but Saharabeige l272. The color looks better in picture than in real life, I painted the car in my garage without paintboot. Next winter the car will be dismanteld again and be painted proffesionally. Love the interior!! seats are modified 914, mounted on a mix of original mount and Seat Marbella/Fiat panda seats (will show them if i find the pictures)More info on the seats, seat mounts, and gauges please!! Brian gauges are modified 944, new chrome rings and glasses. And the holder for them is being laserd. small gauges under the dash are in a home made bracket. Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on May 25, 2016, 18:58:17 pm Love it! Don't now, didn't drive a meter with it ::)How does the front mounted oil cooler perform? And what size oil pump and hoses do you use? Thanks! -BB- but the cooler was in a friends car before who drove it on the track and it was working good back then. He had to mount a thermostat because the oil didn't get hot enough. pump is a modified type 4, with 30mm gears. in the frame there are fixed hoses from 15mm, and the flexibel hoses are an10. Beam is the stock beam with reinforcement, remmele suspension (front and rear), R&P from a polo, Porsche Boxters brakes and the brake line are al steel brainded ones. Nice car Broen. Love all the chassis details. I remember, those where good times. Must been 9 years ago or something. We met a whole lot of years ago at Bitburg. Jesse Wow, I wonder how this little beast will drive! Driveline, brakes and steering setup looks promising. You are not the only one ;D!Dem Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: Addie/DVK on May 25, 2016, 19:50:56 pm Nice build! Looks great.
Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: kever65 on May 26, 2016, 19:29:26 pm Hello Broen, looks nice
about the paintjob, we do a lot of paintdetailing at work, it is sometimes unbelievable what result we can achieve even on very bad paintjobs. I assume we have seen worse than the one you did, so when you do you first test drive, you have a destination ;) ;) grtz Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on May 27, 2016, 06:01:03 am I now Davy, it would be possible to polish the paint flat. But the body it self isn't flat, didn't bondo anything.
And there is still a big dent in the roof from a wooden beam of 6 meter who have dropped on it ::) Don't worry, if it rides I come over ;) Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: nicolas on May 28, 2016, 05:14:06 am the car looks to be nicely done, keep us posted about the rest of the build.
Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on May 28, 2016, 09:04:33 am Ok, here is the chassis post.
It al started with a pretty solid chassis, no major rust that was not repairable. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/IMG_1281.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/IMG_1281.jpg.html) But the passenger side had to much rust pitting to have a nice finish, so it was cut out. This made further work much easier, because now i was time to open the tunnel. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/P1040770.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/P1040770.jpg.html) Two oil and fuel lines where mounted in the tunnel, clutch line and also changed the shifter position. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/P1040786.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/P1040786.jpg.html) Than this got mounted. So converted the car to IRS with the use of steel 944 arms and brakes. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/P1040810.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/P1040810.jpg.html) A little testfit to see if everything worked. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/tussendoor%203.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/tussendoor%203.jpg.html) Then the chassis whent back to the place for metallization the frame tunnel and sandblasting the rest of the chassis. Welded tunnel and new floorpan in. Then back to metallization for the chassis itself. And in to the paint boot. Here the holes for the cage are already been made (but thats for the body update). (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/IMG_3257.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/IMG_3257.jpg.html) And this was the result. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/IMG_3326.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/IMG_3326.jpg.html) So now it was time to start mounting everything, and believe me there was a lot to put in it :D. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0498.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0498.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0507.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0507.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/DSC_0509_1.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/DSC_0509_1.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/onderkant%20chassis.jpeg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/onderkant%20chassis.jpeg.html) that's it for now! Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: Nico86 on May 31, 2016, 01:37:04 am Amazing work on the chassis! :o
Can you give more details about the front beam reinforcements brackets? Are they home made? I like the idea of the skid plate! Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on June 01, 2016, 18:37:23 pm thanks
the beam reinforcements came from a german guy. he sells them on bugnet and saw him on meeting with it to, but I don't remember his name. the skidplate is for keeping the frame nice but also for putting the car on the trailer. The 2 dots on the url are enlarged and have m10 threath now, so i can put in a eyebolt and attach a knee strap to it. Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: dielinde on June 05, 2016, 19:17:50 pm 8) 8) 8) 8) very very very nice late looker i had a 68, in Königsrot but he was not in this perfekt condition... very awesome
Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: miguel on July 31, 2016, 16:13:00 pm waauw really cool 69 !!!!!! Lovely work :-)
Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on August 25, 2016, 06:52:08 am A couple of months went by, and a lot happened in that time.
But now i can say I have driven the car the past couple of days. It's a blast, engine makes good power. Steering is not to compare with a stock bug, it's direct and stable at high speed. Just need to make some adjustment on the front shocks, it's to bouncy now. The shocks have a small extra spring in it, will try the difference with that removed. So last weekend we went to a event in France to test the car. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/14054520_834715156630653_4931335780465367418_o.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/14054520_834715156630653_4931335780465367418_o.jpg.html) Together with kever65 on here. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/14102880_834726469962855_7541734654125380046_o.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/14102880_834726469962855_7541734654125380046_o.jpg.html) Had a great time over there, learnt a lot, like racing with slicks on a wet track isn't a good idea ;D. But after driving the car there where gearbox problem. Can't shift fast, espacially to second. It makes a lot of noise and loses a lot of oil. It's the only part that isn't new or rebuild on the car, so last night this happened. (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/motor%20eruit.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/motor%20eruit.jpg.html) (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/boite.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/boite.jpg.html) only drove 200km with it and this was already hanging on the oil bolt (http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/et_kevertje/oliedop.jpg) (http://s104.photobucket.com/user/et_kevertje/media/oliedop.jpg.html) So today the box goes away for a rebuild. hope to get it back before DDD. that's it for now! Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: henk on August 25, 2016, 08:36:40 am Heard nice things about that complew in claster.
There is a lot to do:track,400meter,... Wich engine is in your car,or did i look over it i your topic here? Henk!!! Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: Eddie DVK on August 25, 2016, 15:25:03 pm Yes more pictures and info of the engine.... ;D
Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: broen messiaen on August 26, 2016, 06:52:55 am So gearbox is away for rebuild, hopefully next week the now what is wrong with it.
@Henk: At Clastres they have a big site, there is a straight line of 1 mile. A irth track for bikes, a little circuit and a drift circuit. It's like 45 minutes further than Lille, so it's not that far in France. The engine is a 2.5 type4 specs are: 71x105 48 idf 009 heads are welded and 44x38 manley valves, gb double springs, jpm retainers BAS exhaust (love the noise :D) webcam 86c custom flywheel to use a porsche 915 flywheel and release bearing ... ;) Title: Re: Belgium 69'er Post by: Eddie DVK on August 26, 2016, 10:30:54 am Cool ;D ;)

didn't make it to DDD. however was able to participate to King of the hill. the weekend started badly with a 17second pass(clutch problems), but on sunday we where able to get a time of 14.4 seconds(only 5.500rpm in 3th gear). massive thanks to Davy (kever65 on here) for helping me. I have made registration for the VoksWorldShow, and they have accepted me. So now the car is back dismounted and we are hoping it will be show ready by then. This is how the body looks now, so lot's of work has to been done.
