Title: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: baz on June 27, 2016, 17:19:10 pm I need some 1 inch narrowed A arms and I'm having a hard time finding somewhere to buy them. Anyone got any ideas who in the UK I should talk to?
Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: leec on June 27, 2016, 17:31:20 pm Sure Wayne Allman did Steve and Adeles outlaw flat four race car

Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: spoolin70 on June 28, 2016, 06:53:33 am Hi Baz
Are you referring to moving the bearing carrier inside the arm or another method ? Jim Wotton at vee-dubs in welling did mine. Leec is correct about Wayne Allman carrying this out too Thanks Darren Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: baz on June 28, 2016, 11:04:10 am Yep moving the bearing carrier inwards. Been trying Wayne but no answer, will try Jim too.
Cheers Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: lecid on September 05, 2016, 14:13:26 pm Hi,

Cheers, Nico I'm still trying to get someone to do mine, both guys mentioned above are too busy to commit to doing them anytime soon. Thinking of making a jig and doing them at work with some skilled help. Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: baz on September 28, 2016, 22:38:34 pm I have only just clicked back on this thread just now, hadn't seen the last few posts from speedwell.
Thanks dude, that article is a great help. Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: spoolin70 on September 29, 2016, 06:58:02 am Hi Baz
Not many pictures but you probably get the idea from speedwells pictures - https://www.airkewld.com/kb_results.asp?ID=15 There was also an article on Germanlook.net but parts of the site I can't seem to access on my phone - have a look in the tech section. Thanks Darren Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Thanks Darren Hi darren That jig on airkewled looks easy enough to make, reckon I could get one made up at work. (http://i.imgur.com/CfUAsK2.jpg) The bracket that holds the bearing carrier needs to be adjustable though surely? Or needs a 25mm spacer to align the carrier in new position? Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: karl h on September 29, 2016, 11:51:45 am my jig uses a stock stub axle, i let the carrier slide in on the axle after its cut loose, that way it stays centered

Who does them? Post by: Nikov on October 04, 2016, 08:41:38 am Do you have to narrow the drive shafts too?
Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: karl h on October 04, 2016, 10:49:35 am you have to use narrowed axles or two right side automatic type 3 axles (these are shorter, but hard to find), the stub axles dont have to be modified

Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: karl h on October 04, 2016, 18:54:04 pm i´m in austria ;D
custom axles are the only way i think Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? I'm on the lookout too but haven't been looking too hard yet, still a ways off needing them yet ;) Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: spoolin70 on October 05, 2016, 06:47:42 am My bearing housings AND arm mounting points have been moved inwards so I'll be needing some short (probably custom length) shafts.
My first call will be to Pete at Cogbox ;) Thanks Darren Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: jmarkha1 on September 08, 2018, 19:32:20 pm I know this is an old thread but interested to know whether anyone in UK offers service to move hub inbound an inch for IRS.
Want to get some high offset mags underneath a squareback - thx Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: richie on September 08, 2018, 19:51:12 pm I can do them,I have a jig and done some for couple cars now, got another pair to do next month, max I have moved them is 20mm but don't see why they cant be moved a little more
cheers Richie Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: jmarkha1 on September 08, 2018, 23:53:23 pm Good to know Richie - thanks.
I will measure up and see where things will end up at 20-25mm will get back to you... Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: karl h on September 10, 2018, 07:09:10 am i have found that not all irs arms are the same, with some you can move the carrier in 20mm, with some 25mm or anything inbetween
Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: richie on October 12, 2018, 18:48:56 pm Here's some I am just finishing up that are 20mm narrowed and I tweaked the camber on them so that they are at zero still when stationary even though car is lowered a little ;)

Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: jmarkha1 on October 12, 2018, 20:54:49 pm NICE WORK - Realistically how narrow could you go using that technique and retain stock type 3 drums? - 25-30MM?
Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: richie on October 13, 2018, 00:49:46 am NICE WORK - Realistically how narrow could you go using that technique and retain stock type 3 drums? - 25-30MM? With custom axles yes looks like 30mm might be possible but until they are cut up its hard to say for sure Title: Re: Narrowed irs trailing arms. Who does them? Post by: Bruce on October 14, 2018, 03:12:22 am That's how I did mine many years ago. Mine are narrowed 34mm each side.
Beware, your inner ball bearing will not fit. That's because of the weld on the OD of the bearing housing being right at the bearing. Ideally, you would put the TA on your mill and bore it back to the stock diameter. Have you checked the clearance between your tire and the tab that bolts to the spring plate?
