Title: Empi split rim O ring size?
Post by: UltraOrange67-2443 on July 09, 2016, 10:19:18 am
Just cleaning a set of 15" Empi 8 spokes.

Anyone know the correct O ring size between the two halves?

Cheers, Nick

I used 4mm and tubes. No issues but never felt comfortable running them on UK roads!

Nick they aren't quite an o ring. They are slightly flatter.

Be careful when tightening them down. If the seal is too big it will crack the rim before you torque them down fully.

Fabs on here got me some a few years ago but have used mastic and tubes before

Hi Ron,

I've been told from the ID and groove size that a 2.5-3mm O ring should have the correct squish.

I have also noticed one wheel has a different hole for the valve, did they make them for tubed and radial tyres?

Cheers, Nick

i will correctly measure them, but i have used them with and without the o-ring. i always used tubes so far, but i think i would try to run them without them if i have to mount them again as i always check pressure before going out. besides less air in the tyres means more grip  :P  ::)
as for using them, it is unavoidable to hit a pothole or something like a raised part on the road, debris,.. when you drive, so far i haven't got any cracks or dangs. being carefull helps.
like Ron said, be careful with the ring, if it isn't in the groove you can damage your wheels.
i do have another issue, that are the valvestems as i can only inflate the tyres with an angled one or i need to take the wheel off…

exept from this little problem they are the best wheel out there  ::)  ;D i know i am biased  8)

If anyone can supply the size, or supply I would be most grateful.
I have a set myself which are on there way to custom motor bodies for paint and polish.
Many thanks
Dennis
