Title: Chinese Nikasils
Post by: max Der Bahnstormerz on July 13, 2016, 16:04:57 pm
Has anyone on here used the Chinese nikasil barrels yet? Got a set but am in two minds about using them over a set of regular 94mm Mahle's.

I have not but I remember reading some very unsatisfactory things on thesamba.com forum about them.

There is a guy up around Detroit if memory serves, that I had some contact with a couple of years back. He had a set of these QSC cylinders on his 2275/2332 ish engine. After a couple of years trying them out he ended with taking them off, because they did not want to stay round when the engine was under load or on longer freeway journeys. And his car is a 356 Replica.
Whether they have improved since then I do not know.

I seriously wanted a set of these.
But never found anyone with good results or good words about them.
Real nickies.......would be good.

Max,

I think the answer is use the Empi 88s and SPG crank 😉

I thought Ahnendorp was testing some type 1 Chinese alu-nikasil cylinder sets with their own german forged pistons and the correct piston rings.
But only 88 en 92mm bore so far I think:

The ones I have look identical to the Ahnendorp ones, possibly the same manufacturer. I could be a Guinea pig and try them but can't be bothered, should they fail. There must me more out out there with these. I got mine from Jack  Sacchette approx 12 years ago
