So what would you guys recommend remove seats weld and cut new seats? I don't want to risk a seat falling out!

Definitely. A hairline crack is quite normal but the aluminium has been eroded here. Better safe than sorry!

All the seats have grooves/marks that I won't be able to blend in. The machine work looks like a monkey did it with a spoon, should I go to a vw specialist or will a local machine shop suffice.

i am planning on keeping the 40 x 35.5 valves as its a street engine - 125 cam, 78mm crank, heads are currently cut for 90.5 barrels but that might change to 94s ;D
