Post by: bzh67 on October 09, 2016, 09:11:02 am
hello , when you got a msd6al you need to put the tach wiring on the box of the msd , but all tach doesnt work with the 6AL

can you tell me what tach model do you use on your beetle ?

i've got a JAEGER but doesnt work , i know there is 2 model adaptator but prefer to change the tach directly

please help ,  i just finish my engine , and really need a tach to test the engine on the road

I installed a VDO tach with my MSD 6AL and it's worked fine for many years, no issues.

I'd call the Tach manufacturer and see what it would take to make it work -- it would be cheaper than a complete replace,,,,, unless your wanting to update it -- -- go the Summit or Jeg's and look around for something.......

I know you said you wanted to just change the tach, however if you decide not to, i have an MSD 8910 sat in the garage not being used. It's for sale if you want it.

MSD 8920 if you're using magnetic pick up (green and purple wires)

as stated here:

https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/msd-8920/overview/

MSD 8910 if you're using the white wire

as stated here:

On Page 7 of this .pdf it will show you which tachs are compatible or what you need to get yours to work -- call Jaeger they should know too
