Title: Leaking Rear Hubs
Post by: RichardinNZ on November 17, 2016, 04:55:38 am
When I installed the new transmission in the '58 I used new bearings, seals etc in the rear hubs (now with type 3 backing plates, drums and appropriate bearing retainers with the channel for any leaking oil).

I've not had any leaks at all.  However, when I pulled the drums earlier this week one side started to leak.  Is this usual with the drums off and the axles hanging down with no weight on them, or should I pull it apart and fit a new oil seal?

Thanks
Richard

The o-ring under the seal race/spacer needs the torqued drum to compress and seal it.
I doubt the seal is the problem.

Many thanks.  Hopefully all good then.
