That's right, SCC has moved weekend to the weekend before, that is 15-16-17 August.
We are terrible sorry for any unconvinced this could cause.

If everything goes as planed we will show upp with five cars from the östersund area(north sweden). This year i drove alone for 680 km with the car on a trailer(the berryl green gasser looker) and didnt get to drive because the track officals found an oil leak that doesnt exist, but what the heck i had a great wekend anyway. I got a flat on the trailer on the way home by the way and no spare.This year i hopefully have the right engine in the car and the gasser theme will be more developed. ;) :D

I just came back from a SCC meeting tonight, and boy am I optimistic, we have have NEVER had this much going on. Stickers banners posters dashplaque's... exciting stuff!

And Richie, I am quite sure the local boys will rise to the challenge...  but about those sissy sticks I'm not so sure... keep heckling them and you will get out that mean viking deep inside...

I cant wait...  showcars, wheelies, bonfires, VW's, the legendary Gardermoen track, friends and pine forests... mix it all up an you get the most refreshing and different meeting on the European calendar.... the fun only last a few days... the stories that will be with you for life...

This year my plan is to run only 402, not my usually 420, so just watch out.. ;D

The only thing I could book for this year is a flight ticket Geneva-Oslo and back, and that's what I just did!! I really look forward to be there again after my last year's split-scandinavian trip, and to meet you all again behind a big screwdriver-burger!

4 ways;

1) Ferry from Denmark to Kristiansand and then the drive from Kr.Sand to Gardermoen/Oslo (320km)
2) Ferry from Denmark to Oslo (rumours has it that this route is to be shut down soon)
3) Ferry from Denmark to Larvik and then drive to Oslo (150km)
4) Drive over the 7850 meter long Øresund bridge between Denmark to Sweden and then drive from Malmoe Sweden to Oslo (650km) This is the cheapest way (if you have a car and trailer the ferries can be quite expensive) and the roads are good (you did this trip when you visited JPM dyno day)

hey i was thinking of going on a longer ferry. to catch up some sleep and have a meal. not just drive the whole thing. but prices are a big issue. i have convinced the family to come allong so i guess the trip has to be planned.

The thing about the bridge is that it´s the fastest alternative, and probably also the cheapest. I´ve driven over it a couple of times, it´s VERY cool!  ;D
BUT! If you take a ferry you can really kick back and get good sleep and some nice food. And of course you get to be on the "Lounge Deck"  :D

edit: what would it cost to fly to Gardemoen? i was maybe thinking of flying my wife and son over if the journey is too long... not as cool, but maybe an option... Gardemoen is the airport so that might be easier for them.

i think we have a solution to the long trip to go up there... my wife and son will be flying in and i will drive there with the english cars, just to make sure they stay on the right side of the road  ;D and we will come back on a longer trip with more stops and travel around a bit more. so is that strip still near Oslo airport and when is everybody planning to arrive at Gardemoen? i want to know because i have to pick up my family and all that, and book the flights. brussels airlines is not too expensive.
the only thing i wont be able to do is race as my car will have to make the trip back and it looks harder to have the car registered fully. seems like others can benefit more of the registration then me... but i still hope i could race there...

Sounds like a good plan :) The raceway is next to the airport, 5-10 min from the terminal, so there will be no problem picking up your family.

Here is a link to all the different routes with crossingtimes etc I looked at before. You have to put Euros as currency to pay in to get the information.
And for a change they are not ripping us off on the english website. I've checked prices on the Danish websites (I can just make out the language and find my way round) and thery are the same after the exchange (they still have Kroners no Euros here)

i was hoping to come, but I have just sat down to price it up, and with the baby, its out of my price range this year.  Hopefully next year.

Guys I just worked out my shift pattern/holidays for SCC and I have from Aug 12th to 23rd :o and the best thing is I only need to "Book" 4 days holiday  ;) :)

how stupid is it to race at SCC with the fastback??? i really want to race, BUT i need the car to get back as well with the family... so if i break i am stranded in Norway. what do i need to do to race? are there spaces left? and a place to get some spare parts, or someone that comes along with a truck... just thinking out loud.

To race with the fastback is really cool nicolas!! That`s gona be a performance to respect :)

There will be parts dealers at the site, or else the place is stuffed with real vw enthusiasts, so there are NO chance you will be stranded in Norway, unless you want to of course ;)

To race you need three point safety belt, no loose items in the car, drivers license, helmet, gloves, and clothes that cover your body. And the car must be "leek free" :)
And there are depot spaces left, no problem.

Like Berger says racing the car would be really cool. it's one hell of a drive so I understand your concerns about keeping the car in good shape but run the car at 8/10ths and it'll be fine. Basically launch it soft and shave some RPM off of the top. The experience you'll have will have been worth way more than paying heed to any concerns you have. Again like Berger says you're at a track full of enthusiasts and there's no way anyone's going to leave you stranded. At worst the car goes home on the transporter but so what? It's really unlikely to happen and if it does the plus side is you can crack a beer open and enjoy the ride back. Get breakdown insurance and have some fun! I would like to have been driving there myself this year but too many commitments in terms of time and money have meant I can't so it'll have to wait but I intend to do the trip sometime and when I do the car isn't going to be parked trackside unless I broke it on the way! It's addictive; last year at EBI my car developed a fault which really screwed my times but it was in the upper RPM range so I concentrated on working out how to launch the car with the new diff. I put in 12 passes I think and ended up having to stop 14 times on the way home! Whilst it wasn't the best drive home I've had we made it back. I don't know how far the SCC is from you, 1000 miles maybe? Look at it this way what's the worst you can do in an additional 2.5/3.5 miles?

And thinking about it, that isn't so bad either; it's a beautiful country. Run 10/10ths, kill the car, 'forget' the breakdown insurance and enjoy the scenery!

no way back. non-refundable tickets to Gardemoen are booked for my wife and son; they will arrive at Gardemoen airport at 15:00 on saturday. hope this does not interfere with my racing...  ;D  i.e. hope i don't break stuff before they arrive.

I have a question about racing at gardemoen in august. Must the car be registered for the public road to be allowed to race at the track. I have a race car that don´t have any register plates.

If you dont have licence plates you need a dragracing licence on the car. Contact your national motorsport association on how to get one.

Some of us have made the trip before from Norway to Belgium once or twice by car so we can probably give some pointers.

You have to be careful about what you drink when with the Scandinavians, they test their fuel on humans.

Today the SCC crew sampled Chimay Trippiste Beer(SEVERAL kinds! :D ) cheese and local ham after checking out the arena layout at the European Bug-In with Mr. Kobus himself! AMAZING!  :o

I got a phone call from "WestenHill" last night, some guy with a "VW schnellheck" (<-what kind of car is that?)  is coming to SCC with three other friends...  they claim that "atmospheric sucks"....?!  ...and he was talking about 2,1 bar boost...  :o

I think you are right Mat, there haven't been a start line like this in....  well, never... atleast in Europe!! Something like TEN of the cars has done nines before... most of them with license plates...
How many that does their first eight we wont know until Sunday night...

Top of my head I know of 3-4 other buses (not counting some stock buses that probably will have a go) that will be racing at SCC with various ambition levels - everything from a 1641 split bus to a 2,3 litre late bay. The latter owned by a guy that has never drag raced, but wants to have a story to tell his grandchildren, so he has had a T4 engine with 250+ hp built only to race his double cabin bay at SCC...  ;D After SCC he wants to use the car for moose hunting...

I can just picture it.. Hunting norwegian style, a 250hp double cab chasing moose around in the woods  ;D

anna and tony here from the uk.  we are driving to scc in our 79 westy bay (don't think our splitty is up to it yet)  and our mate vwfish is driving in his '67 bug. we are leaving on 12th august via newcastle to stavanger arriving 13th august. we are then driving to oslo for the event.  we are leaving on Sunday to start the return trip to the uk via sweden across that fab bridge at malmo and into denmark to dash to the ferry from esjberg to harwich on 21st august.....anyone going that way or have any suggestions as to the most exciting routes to oslo or beyond?  we are looking foward to the event - it looks great.

Hello, I thought I would stick my head in. Thanks for the tip on the route as my satnav was planning on taking us as much as it could as the crow flies but that looks a truly awesome route. As we are leaving on Sunday to start the return trip to the UK via Sweden across the bridge at Malmo and into Denmark can you recommend any pretty routes or any events we could stop and take part in on the return journey.

When I click your link Berger I get the coastal route, not the mountain route (?)  EDIT: Tried to post the correct route, but ViaMichelin seems to drop the stop overs in the url and only provide the coastal route. Strange.... Type Stavanger - Sirdal - Oslo - Gardermoen in ViaMichelin for the mountain route

Coastal route is longer, but pretty much all motorway, so probably quicker - the mountain route is shorter and alot more scenic, but parts of it with narrow, winding roads (watch out for sheep sleeping in the middle of the road :))

vwfish, from SCC to Denmark is basically all motorway (European route E6) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_route_E6) and there are no obvious alternative/scenic routes. I recommend to instead take short detours and get back on E6. What to do all depends on your interests and time available. I would recommend my hometown Oslo for the Viking ship museum] (http://www.khm.uio.no/vikingskipshuset/gokstad/index_eng.html),  the Vigeland park  (http://www.vigeland.museum.no)etc

In Sweden you can stay overnight in Gothenburg where they have the huge amusement park Liseberg  (http://www.liseberg.com/NR/exeres/ABE9129C-ECE1-49AF-9DA7-E562867C1E07.htm) or take a detour and visit the Saab museum in Trollhättan (http://www.saab.com/main/GLOBAL/en/museum.shtml). I would recommend a stayover  in Copenhagen  (http://www.visitcopenhagen.com) if you haven't been there before, an awsome city IMO. There is a million other things to do and see, it all depends on what you are interested in.

With a hammer, some tape and wire you can do lot's of things  ;D

I service the engine last weekend and don't notice something wrong. I put an oil temp gauge and it never exceed 80°. Even on freeway with the hot weather we had this week. So, normally, It should be not a problem to make the trip.

But it is a little bit stressful to go so long with and old car. The biggest trip I did with, is to go to Thenay, France. 1200km on a weekend.

On the other hand, it is a trip that will give some good memories for years  :D

i will be taking out the trans tomorrow and swap it for the shorter ration one and i will be ready!!! you have the long easy cruising trans and you doubt... maybe i am the madman, but the way i look at it is that i want to get there, not rush things, but have a cool trip to go. and i am planning on taking ducttape, so everything can be fixed. did i mention i have a Mac Guyver knive???

I drove nearly 12000km in one summer with my ´58 beetle a couple of years ago without a single problem. With the original 30hp engine!!
In my experience the original engines are MUCH more reliable than the hi-po ones!  ;) :)
So don´t worry, just get in the car and GO!  ;D

There are normal WC`s and a 8 or 10 shower`s there. Pretty ok, and there is a big forrest around the site...practical for us boys ::)
And there is a free car wash area too.... ;) 

I was up at Gardermoen yesterday to check out the site(again). There´s 270 race teams there this weekend for the European drag racing series!  :o

Euro bills should work in most stores, but coins will not. If you have a credit card that is by far the easiest way. There is a store in the nearby town of Jessheim, but none right next to the track... actually there isn't anything but pines right next to the track....  ;)  5 km's to the nearest store I guess. McD is closer...

So, you come to SCC too?  :)

I had to stock up on beer last year at SCC, it was only a short drive to some local shopping centre - like 10 minute drive. If I were you, I would go to any ATM and get some Norwegian kroner, I wouldn't be too sure they accept euros at any gas station or local random shop. You obviously got cash machines at the airport nearby. On Sunday, if you still got Norwegian currency left, spend it on SCC gear or buy one pack of sigs or a pint of beer, I promise you that will solve your problem... :)

I have a friend that has never drag raced before. Last winter, when it was announced that this year's SCC event would be all air cooled, he said he wanted to drag race - his first time ever. Only so his twin daughters and their future children (his grandchildren) would know that he raced at the biggest aircooled only SCC. And he wanted to race in his double cabin Bay.

He is in it for a good story to tell, but he has made some serious sacrifies to have the engine built. He took a second job to get that engine built.

Today I got to ride in his Bay with the brand new engine, and we had a blast (please excuse my ridiculous laughter, I was just high on hp...). He enters SCC just for fun, but he has a personal goal of qualifying for Ultimate Street Bays, under 18 seconds.

I filmed parts of the ride today and made a short teaser on Youtube for the Norwegian VW community. He didn't want me to publish the video here, because he thought the Loungers (some of you serious drag racers) wouldn't be very impressed by his efforts. I disagreed, so here is a glimpse of a onetimer you will see at SCC...

I like to thank everyone for a great weekend, screwdrivers for a great bbq, and the organizers for an all out great event. specially the track fire crew who put the fire out when my car burst into flames after crossing the finish line. Sorry for the oilspill :-\ After a little wrencing and cleaning i was back on track. The car did an 14.1 not bad for a new combo and a rockie driver and there are much more in the engine. se you all next year

WHAT A GRRRREEEEAT WEEKEND!!!!!! It´s really hard to put words to what I am feeling, but I still smell rubber, trackbite and gasoline. 25hp and race engines are still racing around in my head and I´m wondering why my shoes doesn´t stick to the floor of my office...

What makes SCC really special is "The SCC spirit". We got quite a lot of that during last weekend for sure!!!
Mr. European Bug-In Kobus Cantraine was seen doing track cleanup after an oil spill together with the rest of the SCC crew in their orange t-shirts. Who amongst others included Lids running around fixing stuff! Matt Keene, tech editor of Volksworld was seen 07.45 sunday morning cleaning the burning pit with a broom! Sven Goffaux came from Belgium with his Gimini Super Street beetle. He was so impressed over how helpful the Scandinavians were helping him fixing his gearbox, that he has announced that he will build himself a cabin right next to the track at Gardermoen so he does not have to go home when next years SCC is over!!!
People were lending parts from each others race cars, transmissions and engines were swapped by the numbers! IT´S ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE!!!

I´d like to thank(in no particular order):

Thank's to all for the greatest meeting experience in many years.

As some of you know I've been out of the aircooled scene for many years and almost out from the car scene altogether for the last two years.
But this event actually gave me goosebumps for reliving the atmosphere and fun I remember from gooing to meets with my bug so many years ago.

It soon became apparent that it was almost impossible to be a speaker alongside Øystein as the words (and what great words!) constantly poured out of his mouth.
I could never match his knowledge or showmanship.

All for the better, because then I got more time to take pictures and talk to the racers to bring fresh info to the speaker.
Thanks to all you for providing the action and atmosphere that made it fun to be a car photographer again.

A million thanks to the SCC crew for putting up the absolutely best VW drag race event in Europe ever!!! We will definately come again next year.

I had some fuel delivery issues friday evening with my '55 street car, but got them solved saturday morning. Ran a couple of test passes spinning the tires thru 1st gear (11.9-12.0sec / 184-186 km/h with 1.9sec 60ft times). I was happy with the speed (NA, pump gas, almost 900kg with driver, mufflers and belt on, tall gears, shift at 6500rpm), but the 60ft times were unbelivably bad. Jukka did some adjustments to the rear shocks and tire pressure, and bam, a 1.68 followed by a 1.54sec 60ft time. On these runs I missed a shift, so the et's were only low 12s. As the engine and transmission were brand new, I decided not to get greedy, and as a next step spend an evening in the garage to check everything before taking the car to another race.

It's really great to read stuff like this, I should imagine it'll be a memorable event for everyone that was there for all sorts of different reasons. It's good news for the scene that there are shows like SCC put on by such a great crew, events of this type are giving the European scene new lease of life and frankly it * needed it.


The commentary was pretty funny and handy throughout, there were runs last weekend that you wouldn't have wanted to miss and news from the tower had us running from the pits to the track many times. 950bhp? you bet it's going to * rumble!


Any chance of getting hold of (quite) a few copies of that for the Brits when it's out?

My Bug Run report is coming in the september issue, so it will probably be a handful of months until the SCC report is published.
This is not a VW mag, but a mag for all makes, and they don't want any make to dominate the mag (I'm sorry to say ;D)

Hello guys! it is not easy to say more than all the others, but SCC was: SIMPLY THE  BEST ! ! !

For me it was also total new circumstances to drive my -51 ragtop on the "glue-track",  so i started safe and easy with 215-M&H streettires then changed to 10.5" M&H -streettires and got this 10.51s  level again.  When i found  on sunday pm a very-very small scratch under my gearbox  i didnt want to disturb others driving, so i decided to drive only once more with NO OIL in the gearbox! and i had also cotton there under.  It went ok and i have now here home got the gearbox open and found no damages there inside on my Finnish gears.
 So, how to avoid the possible oil-catastrof ?  It is easiest to have no oil in the gearbox when you drive... ;)

Got to share this story from SCC with you. My buddy Holmsen raced his orange double cabin Bay for the first time. On one of his runs, he took a long time before he returned to the pit.

It turned out Tekken was driving right after Holmsen, and he was normally towed back by his wife Barbro on an ATV. But at the end of the track, they couldn't start the ATV because of battery problems.

I will never forget the sight when Holmsen finally returned. There he was, with Barbro in the passenger seat, the ATV in the back and with Tekken and his Beetle on tow :)

How often do you see a drag racer carrying a passenger, an ATV and towing a "competitor"  :D

By the way, Tekken's best time was 9,44 sec - Holmsen's best - 15,94 sec. Two very different times in very different cars, but I bet you they are equally happy with the result :)

I'm just speechless what to say about SCC2008...!
Just read all the above feedback an then add times ten to how I feel, I still have a crazy/fun buzz in my body after this nice weekend, and can still remember all the sounds, smell and how it was to lose both shoes on the sticky track ;D

Thanks to ALL SCC crew and all the different nations that joined this meeting, without any of them, this would not have been the best Drag Race meeting I ever have experiences! And I really needed this, because I had a hard time after I sold the Ragtop split in July, but this weekend gave my thoughts some new "fresh input" I already have a car in my mind, so thanks guys  8)

I have 2 hours of video, I will soon make some small clips and put them on here to enjoy, but don't forget to buy the official SCC2008 DVD
I have the proof on video, who it was that dropped the canned beer out of the car  :P

hello, i have gotten home safe now and i know now that this will be a found memory for the rest off my life.
i have to thank a lot off people so hereby thanks to all who have made this trip to be so great. hugs and kisses for the special ones. if i am able to to it again in the future i will sure come and gladly get on the road again.

thanks from fish, tony and i from the Uk - we eventually had to all travel in my yelllow bay camper because fish's beetle was bad on the morning of our departure.  Thanks for a great and friendly show - and what a fantastic route from Stavanger to Oslo through the fjords - we just couldnt get over how fantastic the scenery was - truly beautiful and the roads made for an interesting drive too.  We travelled back through Sweden and Denmark and had a lovely holiday - we would love to go again next year.....

i thought it must have been us that you spotted - we had a bit of a wait in customs while they decided to search our bus - then they had to chase us across Stavanger because they forgot to give us some of our things back!  I told the customs lady we were going to a VW rally -she said "You can't rally in this" - she hadnt seen exactly what VWs can do!   Thanks again for a great time.

I have spent a week just letting the impressions from SCC sink in..

What can I say that hasn't allready been said? I have never ever had a weekend like this in my whole life, and I never imagined what started out as a small gathering of norwegian cal-look fans could turn into this.

Knowing most of them personally I have an idea of how much time the SCC crew has put into making this event become real. THANK YOU!!

I would also like to thank all the europeans that travelled far to join us, it's much appreciated.
It felt kind of unreal seeing one magazine cover car after the other roll by our club tent on friday afternoon.

Well all I can say is THANKYOU dude  :) I said I would do it and I did...... I don't know if I am crarzy or just plain stupid as I did spend over £700 on fuel alone  :o

This was probably the best week of my life - it was a truely AMAZING experience - THANKYOU EVERYONE :)

I have to say, together with the best vw weekend in my life, all this positive feedback has made this last week unforgettable!! The hard work is forgotten, and the planning for next years event has already started!! :)

A short report from the finnish drag race finals:
After the SCC event I spent an evening in the garage to check that everything was ok. The only issue I found was a worn shifter bushing. Fixed that, and took the '55 to the finals to upgrade my licence, and make a couple of WOT passes. The weekend was very good; new record for the '55 is 11.53sec / 186 km/h, with a back-up of 11.55, running in full street trim (897kg), dot-tires, mufflers and belt on.
