Title: Who is porting your heads in Europe these days?
Post by: alex d on May 22, 2017, 14:56:31 pm
Most big names are in the US, but with all the shipping and customs hassle, I'm wondering who's delivering nice heads in Europe nowadays?

Tor Øyvind Skinne - aka Skinne Racing here in Norway. Porting is what he do and the results speaks for them selves. Quite a few guys here is now running his heads with good results. You also have JPM aka Johannes Persson in Sweden. He is a genuine nice guy that has supported our hobby for ages and the results are impressive.

Or you can study a pair of really nice ported heads and do the work yourselves. The last option is of course to buy a pair of CNC ported heads and use them as they come.

what are the cost approximately for a set of heads? Do you have to send them together with the manifolds and carbs so it can be match ported?

I paid approx £1'000 to have my Scat Wedge Ports welded alot, ported alot, guides taken out and cut/grinded for flow, valves cut, seats re-done, chamber re-worked, and having the manifold stud spacing moved outward, to allow for even bigger ports..
He also shimmed the valve springs without me asking, as they were a bit "loose". For the amount of work put into them, I'd say that's cheap!
More "normal" jobs are cheaper than this one of course.  ::)

Could have the manifolds done for another £100 if I wanted to. But with the extended stud spacing, I have to have the manifolds made before he can port them..  :P

that's cheap indeed, I did my own manifolds and heads recently, spend roughly 8 hours per head and 3 hours per manifold, ok it was the first time I did so and don't have a lot of tools, but just used common sense, but I do see that there is a lot of work involved!

Don't know how good they are, but you receive a flow bench chart with your heads.
