Title: So many bargains in the USA at the moment

$28,500 = £15k

YOu couldn't build a car like this for that money.

Agreed. Its all off the shelf stuff too. I bet you could build it with a real GT steering wheel, real burners, real early Berg shifter, ect for that money.

The problem we have in the UK is that it's not just a case of altering the car generally speaking, it's more a case of cutting it up and rebuilding it first and before you've got to any of the accessories you can easily burn that money in body and paint alone, this makes a California car appealing. For the accessories along the lines of those you mentioned among others you have better swapmeets too, infact you guys have it easy! Whilst you might be able to build that there it would be a tougher prospect here. Not impossible, but certainly tougher.

:D

15K pounds sterling not enough in the Uk to build that car...

parts alone would be 10-12K UKP

this excludes the labour to do everything.

Raise the suspension back up, big and littles on some real wheels (maybe real empi 5's?), sell the stock crap and bumpers, stab in a big motor and you've got a split looker!!  ;D

Hey, control yourself there!   ;D

I took a ton of pics today and I am going to put an ad on the Samba, look for it.

My goal for the '65 was to restore it totally like factory, then do some mods to it, as if the car was bought off the lot in '65 and then had some bolt on mods done.  I think I achieved my goal.   ;D

One of you guys in the UK or Europe need this car.....

There has been some serious interest in the car of late. I am only getting rid of it due to the ever increasing lack of space. I just bought another ex-DRKC ghia that needs work and is perfect for the track,...SG or maybe SC?  If the car does not sell, I will change the color or the colour. Not sure what it would cost to get it over the pond, but still a great deal. It would cost me at least three or four times the "buy it now" price to replicate.

If I keep it: colour change, new interior, and drop spindles with rader wheels, new stereo, engine tin repant. It will have to be a body off as the original build in mid 90's had every nut and bolt painted, chromed or polished with most of it pink! The engine/tranny combo are perfect for a driiver so those will stay.  The wife can't operate the standard transmission, so I am building her a full auto 66 T34. Parts are a pain in the arss to get her in California.   The more I talk about it or drive it, the more I want to keep the car. Hope I don't end the auction early.

This ghia has sent many people home having to explain how they lost to a pink car.

Not cal-look, but worth sorting out the incorrect stance.

I think he would now if they were real BRM`s. I dont believe it, and I think the reason why the front centercaps isn`t put on the rims is because their fakies.....I`m not saying I`m right, but if he is selling the car and know the value of real BRM`s he would find out for sure....he cant be that stupid.

I will probably hang for this when the cars sells and it turns out to be real ones  ;D

Either way the car would be a bargain and it looks cool, great stance...

The first car is overpriced – you're paying for a ton of stuff you'd never want. The paint may be good (or at least, when it was done) but do you really want to pay top-dollar for a car that will need to be repainted – unless you want to drive a car in orange pearl... You're also paying for a ton of other stuff you don't want – yucky chrome repro five-spokes, accessories etc etc...

The second car is a typical "10 yard (metre!)" car. – look at the paint sprayed over the door locks, wiring etc, the baggy seat covers.... Because a car is in SoCal doesn't mean it's rust-free, arrow-straight and built like a Boyd hot-rod... That's a car I would personally stay away from, unless you can see it first hand and drive it.

Caveat emptor... :-X

i saw it and said yes that should be cal looked... its been repainted so not original, therefore no point in keeping it that way, if it was original paint i would agree to leave alone, but its not.

It really needs color matched fender welting and running boards. Also has early window cranks, but I suppose that could have been carried over from the '66's since it is a first day car. Pretty cool, but I couldnt Cal Look it.

not a total bargain but didn't want to start a new thread. Still when you add up a paint, body etc there wouldn't be much change left.

not cheap these days  ::)

I think they should be two toned black and white... and white walls look weird on anything past '61 ;)
