Title: Has an oversized header noticeable effect on HP?
Post by: Jordy/DVK on October 20, 2007, 20:19:18 pm

 Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering wether an oversized header has very much effect on the HP of your engine?
Does a too large header really slow down the exhaust gas speed that much? How much does this affect the HP output?
 Any ideas?

 Cheers, Jordy

Okay... is a 1-3/4 SS header with 2" collector too much for let's say a 1915cc, with 043 heads 42x37,5, engle FK-8 engine?
Is that JayCee SS header any good?

1 5/8 would suit that combo a little better. 1 3/4 might cost you a little bottom end.

if you go to big  you loose bottom end power, with a smaller pipe you get more bottom end Power, Smaller Motors run better with a little Back Pressure On a Big Motor with Big Heads It Needs the Bigger Exhaust

Ah the one from ZZPACKED Jordy.

I would go with a 1 5/8 inch header for the 1915cc,my 2 cents ;D

isnt that a 2 inch header?

The pipes are 44mm (1-3/4) where they connect to the heads and I believe that at the collector it is 49mm or something like that.
 (see the webshop of http://www.KaagKevers.nl)

€ 125,- for an SS header like this is a bargain... (with a free stainless steel trumpet/vase... )

Hi Jordy,
I wouldn´t try a 1 3/4" header for your 1914cc as well. My 2176cc engine runs quite well with its tiny 1 5/8" Bugpack header (modified to a large flange) and modified (large flange) CB dual quiets. Anyway I guess I´m loosing some top end power with it so I will probably change it to a 1 3/4" header with larger, homemade dual quiets very soon.
Is the price you mentioned before for a new header? If so, where can I find it on their website (my dutch isn´t that good ;))?
If you want to you could buy my 1 5/8" header (with O² bung) if I should buy a larger header...
Bye,
Tobi

 Hey Tobi,

Here's you can find the header ( stinger included): http://www.kaagkevers.nl/shop.php?id=10068#K%20181
Here another header (2nd hand but unused) for sale: http://www.keversite.nl/prikbord/adv.php?id=10763

I don't know much about the finishing/fitting quality of the header.

If you want to you could buy my 1 5/8" header (with O² bung) if I should buy a larger header...

If you're going to buy a bigger header & DQP please let me know, I might indeed be interested! ;)

 Cheers! Jordy ;)

@Bewitched: yeah.. with vase/trumpet I referred to the stinger...
