Title: The most importent "add-on" to a Cal-looker
Post by: SOB/RFH on March 09, 2006, 20:22:17 pm
If you have to choose just one (1).....I would go with the adjustable dropped front end...but thinking about it.....I might turn and weld the front end and go for the big muscle stroker engine....but opinions differs!! So what's your choice?

Happiness is a Hot VW!!

Georg

Wheels and tires are my first choice. You should always build a car around the wheels. Buy wheels first and then build the rest.

Agree!

Wheels and tires are essential on a looker to make it stand out.
I will never get tired of exploring the world of old cal-look wheels and rubber.

I have to say... "Wheels with just the right rubber"... And I admit.. I love the comic/exaggerated look... (think Dave Deal and you will not be far of)

And the cut'n'turn...

The first parts I bought for my first Beetle back in 1986 was a Puma front beam and a set of gold painted Empi Fives.

But If I had to choose just one thing for a looker, I would definately go for the wheels first.

I guess some people are more into winning the race, while the others are more into LOOKing good trying :-)
personallly I favour the stroker!
Allthough, thinking about it... why do I then have polished radars, and only a 1915ccm...

Rake and wheels, but rake first! Nice wheels does not help a car that looks like it`s a 4x4.....but whit a nice rake stock wheels can look ok....

1oo% agree! It's the stance! The wrong stance can ruin any car's appearence.

a good example for the perfect stance... (apart from that this is just a nicely restored splitwindow ;D )

The Engine. Without that you're just a wannabe...  ;D It might not be the first thing to get, as a car can look good with just the wheels and the rake. Those 3 are the minimum requirements in my book, kinda of the stage 1 of cal-look. Then the next stage would include a built trans (as the old one is shattered by now :) ), a nice shifter and steering wheel plus a rev counter. And it goes on ... until you have no money left.

 It's a tricky question. I mean a Cal-looker isn't a Cal-looker when it misses the details to make it a Cal-looker...
It's not 'just' a dropped front beam or 'just' the wheels or just the engne... it's the tasteful combination...

I guess my 'most important' add-on for a cal-LOOKER would be the stance (iow. a dropped front and ass up)
 2ndly I'd go for a nice wheel/tire combo... 8)
