Post by: richie on January 25, 2019, 22:23:55 pm Yes its front engined but the Volkron[ from Puerto Rico] aircooled flat 4 turbo power steel bodied beetle just ran 7.21@177mph having gone &.35@170mph earlier today at Speedworld in florida, mph is still way down so looks like its possible to see a 6 second vw door car in near future :o

A great achievement but for arguments sake, let's say he gets a 6.... how relevant will it be with the engine in the 'wrong' place ? Would a tube chassis mustang for example with a flat 4 in the rear be MORE relatable ??? Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? The thing I think they eliminate FAST is the experimenting and "testing" part. This has been done before in "similar" sized cars with the same type of suspension etc. So they can start with a setup that just works. And the air shift pretty much rocks! I would also guess a straight cut and straight thourg gearbox is stronger and more efficient? Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? at the same time I agree doing it with a rear engined car presents other challenges, not that it won't eventually happen, right? ;) Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? For sure the weight Distribution in the car makes it good to drive, but ist fast because of the gearbox. Shifting is fast and the Ratio is made to catch the Speed. Post by: richie on January 28, 2019, 19:54:00 pm To add to that, Basti is correct, 4 gears aren't enough, I think really it needs a 6 speed to make it at all possible, and the way a conventional cars rear suspension works if its 4 link solid axle compared to our cars is very very different, I already read that its easy "just add enough weight at front to give same front to rear weight ratio as front engined car" but its much more complicated than just that ::)

Change fourth gear. Now what happens then to the harmony of what you just had? Now finding a "sweet spot" and getting that traction and ET is not likely anything you wish to fiddle with too much. Anything is possible but every change can be like starting over from the beginning. A must safer move is to add a new gear. I asked Ibrahim Colon who is part of the team what they intend to do. Lets see if he answers. Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? Uhhmmm, well ...... ;D Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? Post by: Neil Davies on March 26, 2019, 18:38:41 pm :D Uhhmmm, well ...... ;D ;D In all seriousness, you do raise a good point. We know that the weight transfer of a rear engined bug is good, hence relatively low power cars running decent times (200bhp into the 11s). We also know that the transaxle is a weak point, or there would be no need for bus box conversions, Mendeola etc. Get around that and big power cars can run well (Richie's second cab for example), but it seems very hard to do it reliably and consistently. So that leads us onto front engines. Big power is not the problem, a drag-proven transmission behind it and a solid back axle removes the VW transaxle issue, and the amount of power produced compensates for the weight transfer advantage of the rear engine configuration. I'm guessing that the car handles a bit more predictably with the weight up front too, but I've never been quicker than a low 12 on the track so it's all purely speculation on my part! Absolutely everyone can decide that they want to go dragracing and you do not even have to have a driving licence. All it takes is a fair bit of money and a few hours set aside for the needed race licence and you can go as fast as you want to or have the budget for. Take a V8, add a turbo, step on the brake, add throttle and let go of the brake when the light goes green. 6 seconds later cross the line and post the film from the GoPro on youtube. This sport is NOTHING unless you can do it IN STYLE together with a group of friends and have fun while doing it. Add a little madness into the mix and you will create everlasting memories. -BB- Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? Just watched the video from yesterday...wow. But yes, the fun factor should remain too ;) Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? Post by: Airspeed on March 28, 2019, 21:25:14 pm Absolutely everyone can decide that they want to go dragracing and you do not even have to have a driving licence. -BB- Hear, hear! Title: Re: 7.21@177mph flat 4 door powered car, is a 6second pass possible now? Unless you're on a big displacement engine where the cooler weight takes more of your ET than the super rich tune. |
