Title: gun drilling axles Post by: pupjoint on January 30, 2019, 02:11:41 am has anyone run drilled swingable shafts before on the street?
how much weight reduction we are talking about and how much weaker compared to solid axles? Title: Re: gun drilling axles Post by: Jesse Wens on January 30, 2019, 10:08:57 am I think the point is to make it stronger, not lighter.
Title: Re: gun drilling axles Post by: Bruce on January 31, 2019, 09:32:04 am Removing metal never makes anything stronger.
The only purpose for drilling your axles is to lighten them. Title: Re: gun drilling axles Post by: Roman on January 31, 2019, 10:56:38 am Density of steel is about 8 grams per cubic centimeter.
Do the math, for instance a one meter axle with a 10 mm2 diameter hole will remove 800 grams. Title: Re: gun drilling axles Post by: Jesse Wens on January 31, 2019, 11:05:50 am You're right Bruce.
Had that all wrong in my head.
