Title: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: jick on February 02, 2019, 16:47:30 pm So when I bought the old SNG car last year I knew it didn't have an engine with it,so I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived to find a nice AK series long block, which I've stripped and had checked over and the case is all good....
but more importantly in various boxes were... A new pair of 041 heads, cut for 94's 40x38.5 valves with 52cc chambers A NOS VW forged 69mm crank, welded & counterweighted & 8 dowelled Lightened flywheel A set of NOS Demer Aluminium rods stock length Some old ali 1.4 rockers...... might have to replace these? Berg IDA linkage Magneto & clamp Berg oil filter mount to fit in place of the stock cooler Custom made oil filler set up These last 3 items I'm sure are the originals that were on the SNG back in the 70's. So pretty much all I need are Barrels & Pistons Camshaft Followers Pushrods & tubes Oh, and some IDA's.... I want to throw this thing together for EBI in the summer with minimum expense, using what I have So bearing in mind it's a really light car, and just for blasting up the strip occasionally, what's your advice guys?? Many thanks Jick Title: Re: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: jick on February 02, 2019, 16:54:42 pm (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c260/jick-r/3C2C4DFD-207D-4422-B26F-49B81F9F0D03_zpsgqjxoodh.jpg)

Title: Re: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: richie on February 02, 2019, 17:14:59 pm Hi Jick
nice find, I wouldn't use the ally rods though, they have a really short life cycle, need special bearings and really need oil preheated before starting car so just not ideal for fit and forget type engine, as for rest Engle 130 with decent springs to suit & 1.25/1 rockers, lots of compression & use what you have 8) cheers Richie Title: Re: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: jick on February 02, 2019, 18:27:20 pm Perfect, thanks Richie....... what rods would you advise?
Title: Re: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: richie on February 02, 2019, 19:55:07 pm If you want it to have a short fuse like a true gasser ;D then stock vw rods but otherwise just some short H beams like CB or Scats

Title: Re: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: jick on February 03, 2019, 00:22:57 am Thanks Richie, yeah, I suppose for an extra couple of hundred pounds some different rods are a smart move.
And yes Keith, I remember you telling me before not to use those rockers......they can go with the Demer rods as garage ornaments. I'm really good at hanging shit up on the walls and not actually working on the cars....so I can carry on with that tomorrow. 👍 Title: Re: "Sweep the floor" 1915cc for the SNG Gasser Post by: andrewlandon67 on February 03, 2019, 03:11:14 am Sounds like it'll be a fun little rocketship! I like the 130 cam idea, give it some good compression and enjoy!
