Title: Rocker shims
Post by: Eddie DVK on June 03, 2019, 11:50:13 am
Is there a limit on how much you can put between the head and the rockers.
I now have a 1.5 mm between them ( the thickest set you can buy) but need a bit more...
Did some of you combine several thicknesses under the rocker...

Thanks in advance.

I have just finished one that needed 3 x 0.030thou  under each block so 0.090 total[ nearly 2.3mm] I had to move rocker stud out of head a little to make sure shoulder that rocker block locates on had enough out of shims to work as intended but that was all.

cheers Richie

Oh and also you might need taller valve covers  ::)

dipples also do the trick.  ::)

with thicker shims make sure to check the covers as you easily have not enough space...

Is this caused by longer installed valve stem height?

Ooooh sorry martin,

No this was caused by installing Porsche swivelfeet adjusters.
In an engine that was already in use... and did not want to modify the pushrod length.

did you grind around 1mm from the underside of the rockers to make space? with 911 adjusters everything gets tight if you don't

Yep I did, even chamfer the underside a bit to make room for the swivelfeet to rotate/move.
Will post a picture tonight.

Have everything fitted and by chamfering a bit more, I have now enough space on the swivels..
Only thing to test is the valve cover now.

So... why did you add the swivel feet adjusters?

Always straight contact to the valve, does not need a perfect valve geometry to work properly, so easier to set up.
Porsche uses them.... although that can not be the reason to use them.. ;D

I have an extra NOS Berg set for sale if anyone’s interested. Beef ones don’t need clearance grinding of the rockers.
