Hey gents , I am going to put a 12V alternator onto my 1835 dragster engine.
I ve got a Denso 6281 alternator already, so I am looking for only a mountng bracket without alternator , Maybe with a pulley for the crankshaft?
If anybody got something for sale or dimensions and or plans on how he has done his bracket I would be very happy if you could share it with me.

After thinking a little about the subject i thought about another solution .
A little more oldschool .
Can one of you guys give me the weight of a stock alternator (with or without internal regulator)
But without the fan installed
I know it would be heavier than the Denso , but also more correct looking . The original tower could also be used .

I seem to remember someone having a 6v generator rewound as a 12v alternator. Can't remember who though!

Are 6 V generators lighter than 12 v ?
12v 30a would be sufficient .
A standard 12v 30a generator would be good enough , i guess i wouldn t need a real alternator

Wow serious money , in that case i check out a std 12 v generator i guess .

I have a 12V gen I can weigh when I get a chance I’ll do it.
I tried one of those $50 booster packs the size of a pack of smokes and it turned over my stock engine bug faster than the battery even with no car battery connected. Anyone tried one on their big motor? It makes me think you could eliminate the battery and use this thing to save weight.
It charges with a phone charger so how hard could it be to keep charged?
I bet a tiny generator like on a motorcycle could charge it.

The lightest and best generator is the 55 amp alternator from Bosch. I weighed the and the 30 amp alternator, which is much heavier. I can weigh that again. It is a mistake to think that the alternator is constantly charging at 55 amps. He only does this when a lot of electricity is used. If only the car is running, the ignition system needs about 5 amps. It is best to have a small gel battery from the motorcycle with approx. 25-30 amps or a very light battery for racing cars (very expensive) and to fully charge it before a start (without a battery it will not work, I think). Then start the car with a lithium booster so that little power is drawn from the gel battery. Then the 55 ampere needs only a little recharge and you lose the least engine power. At least that's what I will do with my beetle.

Up to now i was driving without charging at all , i had a 47ah car battery installed , fully charged and you could feel that over the weekend without real chance on recharging it the power dropped .
Now i ve put a little 22 amp battery in , saves me around 5 kg .
But nevertheless i tought of charging it to have it always at the max power .
When running at 8000 rpm i wanna have as much power for the spark plug i possibly can .

I weighed the 12v gen and it’s about 15 lbs. (7 kg).

Thanks a lot , wow thats a lot ! I hoped it was a little less .
In that case i guess the Denso is the better option .
In the end less weight for better electrical stability .

I better start creating a bracket .
Still have to find out how much max rpm the Denso takes before the bearing waves good bye 😂

Does anybody got this type of bracket and is willing to give me some measurements on it ?
Maybe with a straight up picture where i could find out the remaining dimensions ?
I wanna build one my self .
Actually two , one for me , one for a friend .

Bringing this back up again , due to some other stuff i need to do i started to do some 3 D printing . No metal but Nylon and polycarbonate , did anybody ever try to make some parts like an alternator bracket out of a 3 printer ?
Did it work ?

you can use an  a stock alt mount if you turn it round and drill out the casting then tap it makes a really strong mount and allows easy oil filling

that's the only one I have im afraid its pretty obvious how to do it once you turn mount around 180deg basicly a 10mm bolt and a few spacers then line up with the bottom pulley
I also bolted a piece of flat steel to support from a point on engine case to tension the alternator .it not cool and billet but its strong and also gives you a decent breather point in good place on case

You are 100 right , it doesn t look as cool as billet aluminium but does the jkb for sure .
I still have a couple old mounting brackets laying here .
I will have a look at it tonight .
But still , the 3d print would be an idea as well . If i would make a prototype , adjust it etc . I could still send out the CAD data to a professional 3d metal printer ...

So here is the final result , no 3d print or cad , just pure handmade out of aluminium.
Works perfect under garage conditions
