Title: Valve angle
Post by: samotorsport on April 11, 2020, 20:25:59 pm
Hey gents , i wanna build myself a jig to put the Original VW cylinder heads on to drill out the valve guides on the milling machine in a proper way . Does anybody know the angle in which the valves a sitting in heads by any chance ? I read the comp eliminator are at 9 degrees , not sure if stock ones are the same ?
Thanks in advance
Sam

There is a minor variation between each set of heads. I made an adjustable jig for heads and use a precision water level to set the alignment.

That s actually a smart idea !
Never thought about this up to now, but i think this might be the best solution !
Thanks very much i will do something similar !

[attachment=2]You can do a lot of other things with it too, notching pistons, cut seats and rough out combustion chambers...[attachment=1]

Nice Job !
I thought about the pistons too , no need for the moment but better having it then needing it ;)
My only Problem right now is to get the material to do stuff like this , as the shops are all closed (same as everywhere)
What color do you use to mark up ? The red one , i always do it with an Eddingmarker but that is not half as proper as yours .

I use Sharpie Magnum marker pens as a color, couple of layers give a nice, rich red colour.
Pistons are Wiseco 98mm custom blanks with 10mm of extra material on top of the crown, this is how they ended up[attachment=1]

Nope, domes are just for bumping up compression on a pair of heads without flycutting them too much.
I may have to touch them up after the final mockup of the engine, piston to valve clearance may be too close.
When done, I'll get them digitized. Way too much work for another set with a manual lathe and mill.
