With the stock ported heads and 44 IDFs the engine transitioned off idle a lot smoother. With the 044s and IDAs there was a stumble around 1800-2200 rpm that we could not tune out of it. Jim Ratto, Jerry Young (owner of Buggy House) and myself could not get rid of it so I just got used to it since I mostly drove it on the freeway. The powerband was moved up compared to the IDF configuration but still very drivable. If did it over again, which I plan too it will use 94s and I will sleeve the lifter bores. Wobbled lifter bores was the reason I tore it down, oh and to install a 78.4 crank.
